The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business...even in Hawaii (where they NEVER guaranteed their prices anyway).

Is the Prisoner listing under the SD-DVD section the AMC show that airs tomorrow night? I'm guessing it's not.

Thanks Mike. I had a feeling it wasn't the new show yet. I was doing some more poking around on the internet and see that the new show is airing over the next few nights so a DVD/Blu-ray release this week is a bit premature.

I haven't seen the print ad, but the Target.com online weekly ad states that the BD of Gone with the Wind is a two-disc set (probably along the lines of the Wizard of Oz set they did a few weeks ago).  Guess we'll have to wait until Tuesday to find out!

Anyone know of any retailer that is offering the Star Trek blu-ray as an exclusive with an included standard dvd of the film?

As for the normal 3-disc blu-ray, Wal-mart and Fry's have both been advertising it for $19.95

That's something that I would like to know. I have finally planned on getting a blu player in 2010 and while I plan on being more selective with blu titles, I think that this is one that I would like to have, but in the meantime would like the dvd. I might just get the dvd ($9.99 at Amazon is pretty good) and worry about blu next year or so if no combo exists.

At least it's Clerks 2.

Amazing amount of cool releases this week. Must have the new Kevin Smith releases and would love to add Fight Club and Galaxy Quest to the Blu-ray collection...

The wife is getting me Trek on Blu for Christmas; she already told me because she knew I'd have it myself on Tuesday otherwise.  It will be a fine inaugural for my (hopefully) soon-to-be HD setup--featuring a 60- or 65-inch Mitsubishi DLP.  If my seasonal job turns permanent, it will be my reward.

When I click on Fight Club BD in Best Buy's Weekly Ad, it shows up in the shopping cart at $18.99.

It will be interesting to see what prices people actually get on Tuesday.

Trek and GalaxyQuest should be on my doorstep by the end of the week.  Picked up The Peacekeeper Wars at Fry's to compliment the Farscape box which landed in the mail last week.  I've even got Moonshot (BD) waiting at home, along with something called Vampire Party.

The short version?  I don't think I'm buying anything this week that hasn't already been pre-ordered.  Maybe Fight Club at some point...

Here in Canada, this version is sold at Best Buy stores.  I'm really, really tempted to pick this version up.  Star Trek will be a definite purchase on blu-ray this week.

Other Blu's that I will get eventually are Galaxy Quest, Clerks, Chasing Amy, Leon and Fight Club.  But these ones I will take my sweet time getting.  I'm in no rush.

Would Chasing Amy be an okay place to start?  It's been sitting on my shelf for years...just sort of looking back at me.  I picked up the Criterion release used at a game store for next-to-nothing...but I've never worked up the nerve to spin it.

I honestly know very little about these films.

Mike,

Be careful when it comes to their films.  Personally, I wouldn't start w/ Chasing Amy, if I were you.  I watched that film a long time ago (kinda like you experimenting w/ a blind-buy) as a first from that series of collaborations, and I'm not really sure I'd care to rewatch it ever again.   If you want a Y-gen antidote of sorts to Hollywood rom-com, I guess this could be one such formulae for it.   If not, hold off on it indefinitely until you're ready for something like that (and until you're ready for lots of Ben Affleck-type "acting", etc to boot ).  Spend your time watching Love Actually instead w/ your Missus -- I really doubt she'll *ever* like Chasing Amy, even if you ever learn to appreciate it yourself.

If you really want to try something fun from them (and don't mind the irreverance and cynicism of it all along w/ their usual dosage of 4-letter words), I'd suggest Dogma instead.  I (and my wife) am evangelical protestant, and my wife and I found Dogma to be absolutely hilarious -- and for some, it may stimulate a desire to understand one's faith better.  Of course, many of the more devout, conservative Catholics (and many conservative protestants and maybe even many conservatives of all sorts) will likely be thoroughly offended by Dogma.  So if you've got a particularly conservative bone in your body (or your wife's), then maybe you'll want to avoid Dogma (and most of their films in general actually).

But do note though that Kevin Smith did *seem* to use to consider himself a devout and thoughtful Catholic (of sorts) at least back when Dogma was made AFAIK, so it's not like he's merely taking cheap shots at somebody else's religion -- well, he's certainly poking fun at certain aspects of the religion, particularly of the more recent touchy feely variety (and also the old follow-w/out-thinking variety as well).

Hmmmm.  Thanks, Glenn!  Trigger finger's getting itchy.

Mike, didn't you go for the BB combo deal from a couple weeks back?

No idea, but $10 for the DVD is not bad.  If you later don't want to keep it, maybe you can still sell it (or give it away to a friend or something).

OR maybe you should just rent the DVD for now, but buy the BD whenever you find a good sale price.  There's good likelihood that you'll eventually spot it for something closer to $15-17 down the line, if not less, maybe as soon as the BF/CM sales -- in fact, that's roughly what I'm paying for my BB preorder.  Anyway, I seem to remember highly popular blockbuster action titles like Iron Man and Incredible Hulk got discounted very steeply during the BF/CM sales last year -- and those were released maybe a month or two before the BF/CM sales.  And judging from recent sales trend, I don't see why ST won't get similar sales discounts around BF/CM time (or maybe in Dec).

I went with the Amazon $10
because I’m not sure when I’ll get a player. Most likely later next year and once I do I’ll look for bargain blu discs, which by then, Trek might be one of them. And I’ll give the dvd to my dad most likely. I also ordered the combo of Up since that seemed like a decent deal for both.

Nope.  Not even sure what you're talking about.  Combo deal on Star Trek (2009) and what?  A pre-order?

I ended up doing amazon's combo deal on Up & Monster's Inc.  Maybe that's what you're thinking of.

Thanks for the remarks on the Smith films.  I was actually given a copy of Dogma recently.  Maybe THAT'S where I'll start after all.
