GREETINGS!

Hello all-
My first post.
We finally own a home, and guess what?  It's time to get serious about my Speaker setup.
I am amazed at what I have learned since I began reading about HTS in serious forums like this one.
Let me cut the B.S.

My viewing room is probably not very acoustic friendly.  It's 20 x 20, wood floors, paneling on the walls, a brick fireplace, big windows, and a cathedral ceiling.

Now, this is the system I am considering.

Any comments / input would be greatly appreciated.

-- I cannot find any place near me where I can listen to any high end speakers.

Yeah, my current system is BOSE.  Worked great in my apartments over the years, but...

For $2,345 shipped (using that as your budget) you have a LOT of options open to you.  Klipsch makes great speakers but some think their horn tweeters sound harsh.  Before getting them I suggest that you find a place to give them a listen.  An hour or two drive is worth it if you find out that you cringe at the sound of them.

Another option is an internet direct company with a liberal return policy.  Elemental Designs and SVS both are like them.  Basically, they think you will like their speakers so much that you will keep them.  Even if you do go with Klipsch, I suggest you get your sub internet direct.  You will get much more sub for the money.

Thanks for the info.  With so many options, It seems it may be best to build the set up separately, as you say.  I just don't know at this point.  I do know you are right, I need to listen in person.
I read about those Salk Songs, too.  They seem flawless.  But if I were to buy those first, I would have no real idea where to go with the rest of the setup.  There are too many choices....
And trust me, if anyone is content with a system for under 2 grand, believe me I'll listen!

Jim Salk makes excellent speakers.  If you ask, he could probably recomend similar sound speakers for the rest of your setup.

Remember that a lot of people are content with a $99 HTiB system from Wal-Mart connected to their $2,000 TV.  Others have a $10,000 sound system connected to a 15 year old 27" tube TV.  I've seen it all here.

If you aren't sure and have never listened to a high end system, anything you get will probably sound great.  I haven't had a chance to listen to a lot of systems but I have built a few speakers.  I read the reviews and trust the designers.  When they describe it as a 'mellow' midrange or a 'forward' midrange sound, I can pick that out because I've heard the difference.  Now when I listen to a set of speakers, I immediately know if I like them or not even if I can't quite describe why.

With that being said, do any brands or types that you know of fit this environment?  In the past I always found that I would EQ my mids (500 - 1000) between 0 / -6 Db and roll up on the lows and highs, so I guess you can say I prefer a very bass heavy, but crisp overall sound.

Again thanks for your input, I've already learned a boatload since I started here.

Most of the time, speakers don't 'fit' an environment, they 'fit' your ears.  Depending on the speakers you had, you may have had to pull back on the mids because they were designed with more emphasis on the mid frequencies.  If you know your speakers have a flat frequency response to begin with, then you have a better shot at tailoring the sound to your liking.

As the for the bass and liking it heavy, with the right EQ, you can have any frequency response you want.  One for music, one for movies.  Better yet, one for rock music, one for rap, one for action movies, one for whatever you want.
