HDMI Cables and Bandwidth

I've been re-assembling my home theatre and am shocked at the difference in price for HDMI cables.  I bought a 1000EX Monster cable and even the shortest lenght was over $100.  Can I get the same performance from Rocketfish, Belkin or some cheaper brand.  I need in-wall rated and would use it for various BD sources.
Also, is there an issue with using a coupler for combining shorter length cables?

Monoprice.com and Bluejeanscables.com are the ones most often recommended around here.

I'm not sure how couplers affect signal transfer, if at all.
