Receiver reccomendations

I'm in the process of rebuilding my home theater from scratch.  I'm most likely going to be getting the MTS 5.1 full size system with PB13 Ultra sub, but I'm looking for a recommendations for a receiver to pair it with.  I've budgeted up to $1000, but I'm more concerned with getting the right features at the right price than just buying the most expensive thing I can find.  Here are any pertinent details that may help.

$1000 or less
Room is about 12x18x8
Sources: PS3/Wii/ComcastHD
Display: Panasonic 58" TC-P58V10
Speakers: SV MTS 5.1 full-size with PB13-Ultra
Equal time for games/movies/TV

I'd really like to get something with good HDMI switching, auto switching a plus.  I'm sure anything in my price range will handle all the latest HD standards and such (TrueHD/Deep Color/etc...)  I just want something with the right amount of power to do the MTS justice.  Sorry if I'm too broad, any help in narrowing possibilities down would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you don't mind a factory refurb (with a one year warranty-3 year extended for $43) then I think this is a heck-uv-a receiver for $849. Onkyo-876/silver, Black is $859. More bells and whistles than you'll ever need. Great video processing as well.

Others to consider might be the Denon 2310, Marantz 6003, Yamaha 1065, Pioneer Elite VSX-23, H/K 3550HD and 3600. Perhaps an entry level receiver and a quality 5 channel amp  .

Thanks, after checking them all out, the Pioneer looks like its the best bang for the buck and has everything I want.  I find it odd that it's so much cheaper than the other options though.  Is there a reason for that?  Is it missing something that the other has that I don't notice from the spec sheet?

I don't think it's much cheaper than comparable models from other name brands. Maybe I missed a model or two from the others like the Yamaha 765, Marantz 5003/5004 and H/K 354. I just thru out a few model numbers for you to look at. Also, there's the Onkyo 807 but it's been watered down a little since the wonderful 805 was replaced.

And make sure whatever you buy is from an authorized dealer, either in-store or on-line. Most manufactures, and Pioneer in particular, won't honor the waranty if bought from a non-authorized dealer. If you do decide to buy from an NA then I'd really consider an extended warrant, if available. Should be better than nothing.

Right now receivers with Audyssey Room Correction, which includes Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume, are real popular. It comes with most Denon and Onkyo receivers. Other Brands have their own room correction EQ's like H/K's EzSet/EQ, Yamaha's YAPO and Pioneer's MCACC. The more you educate yourself about avr's the more confusing it gets  .

Thanks again.  I realized after I posted my reply that I most likely saw the price from an unauthorized dealer.  As for education, I've always been bound by price more than anything else, so I didn't have to worry as much about bells and whistles.  Now that its more about finding the right features, it hard to figure out what features are just hype and what's actually worth it.  Not to mention that I've always been more of a video guy than audio.
