Need advice/opinions in soundproofing a room for home theater

I am planning to use my loft in my new purchased home as a dedicated home theater. Howevver, before I setup my equipment, I would like to make the drywalls to be soundproofed. I was thinking of taking down the drywall and add some soundproof materials so that less sound can be emitted to the outside. I went to Home Depot and I was told to use those sheet of styrofoams in between the studs and then use those sound insulation sheet before putting back the drywall or maybe even replace the drywall with those Quietrock drywall....not sure if this is money well spent. Or maybe just use the Quietrock all the way without even bother to spend money on those styrofoam and sound insulation sheet. Can anyone share their knowledge on this? I am trying to get the most optimal result with the best bang for the buck.

Another thought is to use a professional service to install it and wonder if it will cost a lot more than do it  yourself. i am a pretty technical guy so as long as I have the guide, I should be able to do it myself.

Thanks!

Search this section for soundproofing discussions.  Quiet Rock, Resiliant Channel, solid core doors, etc will all limit the sound.  The more you spend the more sound will be contained.  On the other hand, if you have a large sub or subs, then it may be a waste.  You need mass to stop low bass.  The items listed above will lessen the bass outside of the room but it won't contain it.  You have to determine whether or not your budget will contain the sound from your equipment.  Or you can just use the volume cotrol to limit the sound outside of the room.  That is the cheapest method.

You really need to determine how far you want to go with this.  If things don't need to be completely soundproof, perhaps you could purchase Quietrock and use green glue to add the quiet rock over top of the existing sheet rock.  Wouldn't make things completely soundproof by any means, but would be a good step in that direction.
