This year I carved four pumpkins inspired by the Creature from the Black Lagoon. While it's not the first time I've done the Creature, I tried 2 new carves and tried to improve the others.

And on a giant pumpkin, the movie poster. This has more detail than my previous effort. There are air bubbles, the background divers have more detail, the faces are rendered better in this one.

I call it shaving off the skin and I use X-acto wood carving tools.
