Hello,
This is my first post so bare with me. I just bought a house and have the go ahead for my own man cave. I already own most of my setup just wanting to add to it. Currently i have a series 6 Samsung LCD 52" TV, an onkyo 5.1 reciever (not sure of model but its about 2 years old.) My speakers are 4 5650 klipsch in wall speakers 2 wall and 2 ceiling and a rc-10 center speaker, sub is a rw-12d 12" digital sub. Reason for klipsch is my company sells them. I'm wanting to go bigger and better. The room is 14x9. Im goin to mount the tv and install the current setup. My plan is to get two more W-5650's (walls) and another rw-12d sub and make it a 7.2. The reciever i am looking at is a onkyo TXSR-607 or 707. The question i guess i have is... is this overkill? Its not a huge room and im sure the 5.1 i have atm would be sufficient.... But im a guy and i like overdoing it. Also has anyone got there hands on one of these recievers and if so how do u like it? I love my current onkyo. If you have any better suggestions, ideas or comments id appreciate it. Also the pro's/con's u can think of. Thanks again.

In my mind there is really never a point of overkill. The way that I see it, your 7.2 setup would allow for some really great sound imaging throughout the room. I'd really try to focus on properly aligning and timing your speakers to a single point in the room and even make a variety of settings for alternative forms of media play. For instance, when you're along have a setting that focuses the sound to one single point in the room, then have another that is better suited to entertain a larger crowd and focus your timings and eq to a broader spectrum.

I would suggest either going with the Onkyo 707 or moving over to Denon's 1910 or 2310 to get the more advanced Audyssey processing than is found in the Onkyo 607.

How do you plan to arrange your two subs?  Co-located or separated?  There are pros and cons to each.

Splitting the .1 channel doesn't magically make it a .2.  It is still a discrete channel of information being sent to two speakers.

Are you happy with your current sub?  If your system is calibrated and you are not stressing your current sub, then adding a second will not add anything to your system.  Yes, they will share the load and there will be a little less distortion but not enough to matter.  A different sub that plays lower might be what you are looking for.

Overkill?  No such thing.  My original sub was a single 12" sub from AE Speakers powered by a 275w PE amp.  I'm now running dual 15's from TC Sounds powered by a 2,400w amp.  I'm upgrading to quad 18's custom subs that I assembled myself.  I did have some help from Scott at Fi Car Audio since the soft parts are his design.  I'm expecting bass down to the single digits at reference levels.  Now that it is cool, I'm also starting my build of seven identical speakers.
