Sony S-300 and Yamaha HDR-6050 - no audio using HDMI cables

Need some help...I have the S-300 player and a Yamaha HDR-6050 receiver.  The receiver has two HDMI inputs one for the DVD player and the other for a sat receiver and one HDMI out to tv.  I hooked up the HDMI cables.  I get picture when switching to the DVD or sat inputs on the receiver but I don't get any sound. The speakers are good cause I got audio on the tuner and cd player.  When I bypass the HDMI cables to the receiver and hook the S-300 to my tv and the receiver via the analog cables using the 5.1 speaker inputs everything sounds great...any clues why it doesn't work with the HDMI cables?

Steve - If you mean the HTR-6050, you will not get audio using HDMI.

From page 19 of the owner's manual:
Quote:
Audio signals input at the HDMI jack are not output from any speaker terminals but output from the connected video monitor.
To enjoy sound from speakers connected to this unit,
- make an analog or digital connection besides the HDMI connection (see page 16)
- mute the volume of the connected video monitor

It looks like this model HTIB receiver only passes a video stream via HDMI, no audio. You will have to connect your DVD player and SAT to the receiver using a digital audio cable, TOS-link optical cable or analog RCA cables.
