How to make sure I'm actually seeing 1080p?

Boy I'm nearly embarrassed asking this question, but here we go....  I have a Samsung HL67A750 LED DLP HDTV to go along with a Panasonic DMP-bd55k blu-ray disc player.  My question is pretty specific and probably really simple:  How do I know when I'm seeing 1080p?  When my tv turns on, it tells me that it's in 1080 @60htz, but I never know if that is 1080i or 1080p.  I've looked in the manual to make sure I've got everything turned on that should be turned on, but I don't necessarily find anything specific pointing to this.  Just want to make sure I'm getting the full potential out of my equipment.    Thanks!

First off, you TV cannot display anything but 1080p.  Whether the source is 1080p or not, the display will upconvert anything it gets to 1080p.  So you only have to check the source for 1080p output.  On the DMP-BD55, if you press the 'Display' button during playback, you can view information on the video output.

The TV will always display 1080p, but there are very few 1080p sources aside from blu-ray (and even some of these are 1080i). Almost all satellite/cable signals are 1080i or 720p.

The best thing to do is go into the set up menu on your disc player and make sure the output resolution is set to 1080p. There should be a similar set up menu on your satellite/cable box allowing you to select both 720p and 1080i.

If your set can deinterlace 1080i material properly, there should be no noticeable difference between 1080i & 1080p.

Thank you!  Just thought I would make sure that I'm doing all I can to get the best picture out there.

you can put on a resolution pattern from BD Basics and look to see if you can see 1 to 1 pixel mapping
