Need help deciding on which name brand....

New to forums, in hope of gaining a little knowledge.  Still fairly in the dark on home theater components, I need a little opinionated assistance please.  Its obvious to assume Onkyo makes a good receiver, based on the many comments in these forums.  So I decided to look for a HTIB from their company.  Their speakers however are not the smallest Ive seen, not really the sleek clean look I was hoping for.  Then I started to notice Denon mentioned a bit.  Searching them, I found them to be sold w/ Boston Acoutic speakers.  Then to complicate things more, started seeing a bit about HK and Klipsch speakers.  So heres my question:  On about an $800-1000 budget, should I choose a Onkyo or Denon receiver.  Then which speakers mentioned above would be best matched?  Model numbers would be appreciated.  These will be going into a sitting area about 12' x 16', but opens up into a dining area (Small viewing area but a lot of air space)  Mostly to be used for movies (displayed on a Samsung TOC 46"LCD) and occassionally for music.

Everyone hears differently and has different preferences.  What sounds good to me may sound like crap to you.  Go and listen to as many different speakers as possible.

And speaker size is directly proportional to their performance (Hoffman's Iron Law).  I'd love to get a pair of 175 lb. Klipschorns - http://www.klipsch.com/na-en/products/klipschorn-overview/ or a pair of 790 lb. Eggleston Ivy's - http://www.egglestonworks.com/ivy.htm.  There is not a perfect speaker.  There is always a trade-off of some type.

Let your ears be the judge of what speakers sound best to you.  Listen to as many as you can in your price range.

I appreciate the suggestions, and understand I should listen to different speakers and make my own decision. However, what is the likelyhood they will be in the store running off the same receiver I will be buying?  I'm sure things can be fine tuned to sound different in different locations.  I was really looking for some of your opinions on what you"ve found to sound the best.  I'm not sure I have the time to go listen to too many various set ups.  Also, give me some opinions of which receiver would be my best choice.  Thanks

A perfect receiver would add no "color" to the sound.  It would transparently amplify the signal.  High quality receivers will add very little to the sound.  Your biggest impact with be the speakers you choose.

Using the same information as above, make sure your receiver meets your connectivity needs and has a built-in calibration system.  After confirming my Pioneer's MCACC system, I am a believer.  Before I would spend hours tweaking my system by hand.
