The recent 'LCD-Plasma Shootout' articles by Dr. Raymond Soneira, of DisplayMate Technologies, are now available at his web site: http://displaymate.com/shootout.html .  This contains the same material recently published in 'Widescreen Review' magazine.  These articles are a must read for anyone shopping for a new TV, or wanting to understand in greater detail the strengths and weaknesses of current flat panel displays.

Here is a quote, from the LCD/Plasma Shootout, that I've said many times, here and other forums. Glad a pro agrees with me. Notice the bold part:
Quote:
Shifting left or right by just one foot at an optimum viewing distance of 7 feet caused the Sony LCD unit to appear noticeably different from the Panasonic Plasma unit next to it, which delivered a consistent picture independent of viewing angle. This same effect also applies to vertical viewing positions and angles, so don’t even think about mounting your LCD HDTV above the fireplace! Make sure that the center of the TV is close to your normal viewing eye level.
They say that plasma is better than LCD, mounted that way. But, I say that no tv should be mounted that way.
I think it was David that said (in reference to mounting above the fireplace): Are you looking for an interior design, or a home theater experience?
Good one David...............
