Fellas I need guidance!

My family room is 18' x 20'.
When the House was built I had it wired for surround sound.
I had the ceiling wired for speakers to the rear of the room.
I also had the contractor run wires out to my back porch for some speakers out there.
I am not an audiophile so I don't have too high a standard but want movies, sports and my UFC events to sound good.
I don't have a brand preference because I really don't know what the heck I'm talking about.
My TV is a Panasonic 50" TH-50 PZ700U (man I love my TV except the sound quality is garbage).
My budget is $2K
What pieces should I buy for a complete system?
Any and all advice is GREATLY appreciated because as I said, I'm clueless and am overwhelmed by the amount of info on the subject.

Respectfully,
Shaun

Too late to change you mind about the ceiling speakers?

The only piece you have now is the TV, correct?

No it's definitely not too late on the ceiling speakers.  I don't have to put them in because the wires are still in the ceiling.

One thing is, if you have one pair of surround speakers it is usually better to have them on the sides and slightly back from the listening area than at the back of the room.  Plus, as David was hinting at, it is better and more flexible to have wall mounted speakers than in-ceiling ones.

They flutter behind you, your possible pasts.
Some bright-eyed and crazy, some frightened and lost.
