Viewing angle - how big of a deal is it, really?

I have read many times that Plasma is superior to LCD when viewed at different angles.  So I went to Best buy to see for myself and to be honest I did not notice any difference between the plasma and LCD screens when viewed offangle.

Is this still a major factor or have LCDs gotten much better recently?  Certainly my LCD laptop monitor has viewing angle issues.  Are the TVs different?

TVs are no different than PCs.

the viewing angle differences with LCD is HUGE.....OMG HUGE!!

By moving over as few as 24 inches the black level can change dramtically to where the person sitting beside the "sweet spot person" sees no deal in blacks.

Coloring skewing is also a problem off axis though no where near as bad.
