There was the massive Abbott & Costello set that included the heretofore unreleased "It Ain't Hay" from Universal. I gladly double-dipped on that mega set to get a nice, clean copy of that film. Plus, this newer set used single-sided discs and had a nice booklet to boot. Highly recommended for any true A&C fans!

I doubled dipped on this one also and highly recommend it. Not necessarily for It Ain't Hay, but for the cleaned up transfers and single-sided discs. I still wish we could get that damn hair on the negative of Hold That Ghost. It flops in during the title sequence of every copy I have so that is why I blame the negative (VHS, Laserdisc, both DVD pressings). But then, I guess it is kind of nostalgic now.

Not sure if you have looked through the Warner Archive site yet or even want too, but one of the best screwball comedies ever, The Mad Miss Matron is listed and there are a few more. That is one title that is almost worth the $20.00 for it.

Ever since I saw that "hair" on a VHS copy I have wondered if the original release was printed that way. If it was, it must have given the projectionist a slight heart attack every time it flopped up and then flopped out of the picture during the title sequence. Back then there were projectionists that really cared about presentation. And there are still some that do today.
I also thought maybe it was a later negative that was produced (I would use internegative but I believe that term was not used until the 1970's) when Realart had control over the films for re-releasing in the late 40's and early 50's. I believe that most of the trailers that are included use the Realart logo.
Now back on topic.
I wish there were more Screwball Comedies on DVD and hope that Sony will dig back in the vault and give a couple more volumes. Columbia had Jean Arthur under contract and she was one of their better comedic actresses.
