Help with dark, grainy image on Samsung DLP

Hello.  I FINALLY have my home theater finished, and I sat down to watch a movie on my new Samsung HL67A750 DLP and noticed that in really dark scenes the dark areas seem to be a bit "grainy".  Is this normal?  I was watching Transformers (I've heard this has reference quality audio and video) and during some of the scenes is where I noticed it.  By adjusting some of the settings I was able to tone it down a bit, but if the background is extremely dark I still notice it.  Should I be noticing this, or are my setting still off or is something else potentially wrong?  Just curious since this is a new set for me.  BTW, I'm running my blu-ray from a Panasonic DMP-55k.  Thanks!

watch in Movie mode, with the contrast at 90 and then adjust the brightness control to make black look black and not gray. (to do this correctly, use a BD test disc like Video Essentials Basics).

Never actually watched our copy of the Transformers BD on our own display -- got it for my kid, not me  -- but depending on the content/title, grain will (and *should*) be there.  Again, can't really speak for Transformers, but some readily noticeable grain showing up in dark scenes is a common/normal enough thing as that's just a matter of physics and the limitations of shooting film in dimly lit situations.

If it looks too grainy in this case, ie. recent Hollywood Blockbuster fare, then maybe you've got your Sammy DLP's dynamic control settings turned on or something -- either that, all your setttings might be too bright for the dark areas like Gregg alludes.

For watching DVDs and BDs (at least), turn any dynamic settings off and go w/ actual settings like Gregg suggested.  If you're watching in a dimly lit environment, you probably want to go w/ the lowest LED light control setting as well -- that's what I do for watching movies -- and that will actually save you some power consumption near as I can tell.  Also, turn off the edge enhancement control -- if that's on, that could be causing the extra grainy look.  I'd also turn off the DNR setting, but if you still find images to be a bit too grainy for you (after getting the rest of the image just right), I guess you might want to put that on low or something.
