My name is Charles Long and I love having a home theater system. My system consist of a 42" LG 720p model LCD, and a JVC TH C-5, and a xbox 360, and a pc that I connect for obvious purposes via hdmi. I am also working on building a file server, which im just working on deciding on a case for it. Im an IT Specialist also. Anyhow, recently my JVC TH C-5 completely crapped out on me. It will not come on. I had a seperate JVC rcvr and sub etc, but I left that one behind in my divorce. I really liked this. So I have pretty much decided to go with this same type of setup. The delima that im having though is do I want to get a new system non all in one? What I was looking at is Yamaha YHT-391BL, only thing about that one is that my current/previous setup was a 10". Anyhow, the other option that im considering is  going with Onkyo HT3200. Im also considering going with a velodyne impact-10 with a recvr and the speakers from my current system.  Please give me imput guys on what you think. Im going to do some reading in a few different sections on this board.

I don't really like all in one systems that much.  I prefer to have the reciever seperate from dvd player, because it sucks if one of the functions goes out, then you are stuck with half a piece of gear.  My dad just had that problem with his, the dvd will work but the amp puts out no sound.  But then again his was not high end either, like 100 bucks at best buy.  Just my opinion though. hope this helps you and welcome to the forum.

I'd also go with a separate receiver. HTIBs tend to not have enough digital inputs, for what people end up wanting to hookup to them (Cable/sat box, Xbox, Wii, VCR, dvd, etc.) The other thing that HTIBs tend to lack in, is good speakers, but good speakers can get expensive (but worth every penny). Speakers are the sound of the system. When I recommend speakers, I recommend the SVS speaker system, which includes an excellent subwoofer. The sysytem is right at $1000 for the 5.1 setup.

If you must go with an HTIB, I'd go with an Onkyo. They use real receivers in their systems. But, I'd get the HT-S 6200 if possible. The HT-S3200 and HT-S5200 are HDMI "pass through" only, and don't have the 5.1/7.1 multi-channel analog inputs, so you'll never be able to listen to the HD audio soundtracks on blu ray movies, with either of those. HDMI "pass through" is for video only. You'll still need an extra audio connection (optical or digital coax), to get regular DD and DTS. The HT-S6200 decodes the HD audio formats, so you can listen to them.
