Projector not recognizing my HDMI/DVI input

I am setting up a budget home theater.  Here are my components:

Optoma EzPro 735 projector
Yamaha RX-V665 receiver (new)
Wii
Panasonic DMR ES10 DVD player

I am using a HDMI/DVI adapter to my projector to utilize the pre-wiring in my new house.  I am using component and composite inputs for the DVD player and Wii. I can get composite and S-video inputs to work but when I use the HDMI cable with the adapter I get a black screen then nothing.  Anything I am missing?  I am not a tech guy but have learned alot as I have struggled to put this room together.

HMDI is a digital format.  Composite, component and S-video are all analog formats.  Most receivers today do not encode analog signals into digital.  To make your configuration work, you need to connect everything using digital, or connect everything analog.  In order to run mixed source equipment, you will need both a digital and analog connection run from your receiver to your projector.  If receiver and projector both support component (RGB), that is the preferred way to make an analog connection.

DVI is basicly HDMI without the sound. DVI passes a digital signal. You just have to make sure you HDMI inputs are HDCP compatiable on your receiver and your projector. Sometimes there is a designated input for the HDMI/DVI connection. That is the way it was with my setup. I had the same problem.
