Ricky Gervais directs this tale of a world where no one in the world has lied, and somehow humanity has made it to the 21st century with this impediment.  And then one day, Mark (Gervais's character) stumbles across the concept of lying in a world where everyone takes everything people say as being totally truthful without any need for verification or corroboration.

Of course, the screenplay takes such a premise to obvious (and somewhat funny) conclusions, but it's a 45 minute screenplay idea stretched out far too long. Didn't hate it, but didn't love it either, it just got a bit tedious in the last 2/3 of the film.

I give it 2.75 stars, or a grade of B-.

The first half of The Invention Of Lying is very funny and the second half gets fairly serious. I usually don't like when comedies make that switch but this movie did it in a natural way. It reminded of an episode of Ricky Gervais' Extras in that they could have a scene where you laugh out loud and a few scenes later, there could be a scene that's sweet, sad or even depressing. It's not Geravis' best work but I liked it.
