Life & Legend of Wyatt Earp Season 2 Cancelled.

Very disappointed to see this one bite the dust. Due for release Sept 29. I still have it on pre-order at Amazon but their main page now stays 'Withdrawn by the manufacturer'.

Classic TV on DVD is close to death if even the independents are pulling out.

I will also be disappointed if this series doesn't continue.

I was planning on getting season 2 myself.  What a disappointment.  The same company was putting out The Real McCoys and stopped after season 3.  Half way there.

As much as I am dismayed to say it, I too think Classic TV on DVD is extremely close to death.  Maybe not on life support yet, but I think hospice is going to need to be called in if the smaller companies have to start pulling releases like this.

When you look back over the last several years and then compare '09 to them it's real clear we are on the downside.  If not for a few nice offerings this year by Shout, and some continuations by CBS/Paramount, the Vintage TV on DVD market would be dead and buried.  Yes, some other big and small groups have offered a couple of things here and there, but only a smattering in comparison to previous years.  And on a personal note, many of my favorites have either been mangled when released (FUGITIVE, MY THREE SONS, FKB S1, ROUTE 66 S1) or flat out abandoned (LITB, BIG VALLEY, RAWHIDE, and FLIPPER, among others).  I also have it on good authority that a few more of my favorites can be added to the stalled/abandoned list, but that's all I'll say.

I'm certainly not overwhelmed this year like I have been in years past.

Bummer...I was really looking forward to this. I watched season 1 earlier in the summer and then bought the Rhino set (a few episodes of each city and then the final showdown) so I could get a sense as to how they pulled off the showdown. I didn't think I could wait 3 to 5 years for all the seasons to be released.

Then when I read about season 2 being released I got excited again because while the Rhino set gives the big picture view I missed seeing all the details on how long it takes to clean up a town. On the Rhino set it takes maybe 5 episodes to show Wyatt starting out in a new town to having it completely cleaned up. While in the complete season sets it can take one to two seasons to pull it off.

While I'll keep the Rhino set as a safety measure to fall back on in later years I would much rather have the complete series. Hopefully, this is only due to some scheduling or production issue and not because of poor sales. Scratch one off my list for the November DD sale.

When and where was Season 2  annouced in the first place?

There is no press release at tvshowsondvd.com that I can find.

Season 2 never appeared in the upcoming releases for September at  Infinity's Critic's Choice site, which is where the Infinity titles usually show up first.

I think Amazon jumped the gun on this one with some advance info that was not final.

FWIW, this title showed up on some of the "new release" lists that I comb when compiling the Weekly RoundUp.  And, it also appeared on amazon.com with this date and a price of $35.99  (although no picture was available of the cover.  But that's not completely uncommon either.).

Guess I should go pull the title from the RoundUp...

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

Specifically, it has been on the tvshowsondvd.com release list for a couple of months now as a 9/29 release. That is where I first saw it and then noticed it on Amazon. However, I don't know how official that makes the release.

The press release for S1 stated that all six seasons were forthcoming.

I hope that this means S2 was postponed, not cancelled.

I was planning to buy S1 during DD's summer sale, but decided to get the Rhino set first, because I was afraid that it would go OOP.  S1 is high on my list for the next sale.

I guess something bad is in the wind at Infinity. If you go to their site, the links to Falcon Picture Group and SFM Entertainment say: " Sorry, there are not any products available from that studio now."

The Falcon Picture Group site, itself, still shows them, Sgt Preston, Jim Bowie, Real McCoys, Suspense and Wyatt Earp S1, but no Earp S2.  Maybe Falcon is getting a new distribtor.

I've been worried about Infinity's stability for a while now, and this information doesn't do anything to lessen that concern.  I guess we should just be glad that we got a few completed series from them before things fell apart (if that's what has happened).

Possibly more palatable is that the rights holders/major corporations are withdrawing much of their easy/cheap access to these properties while they wade out the economic downturn and invest into more crappy 'archive-like' ventures to handle TV classics on demand... I seriously doubt that as long as there are us paying customers still with a pulse the major companies will always be willing to keep hope alive and cash flowing -- especially if the item in question is in reasonable condition ie not needing any big investment to prepare it for the marketplace.
I'm no fan of warner's archive, especially its pricing/quality model, but it would appear classic tv is something that would go well that way.
