HDTV takes 15minutes to recognize HT video signal

I need some help...

My setup
Panasonic TCP54S1 Plasma HDTV
Home theater LG LHB977
VerizonFios / Verizon HD DVR

I have connected my new Panasonic TCP54S1 Plasma HDTV to my home theater system, which outputs 1080i/1080p signal via HDMI, Each time I turn on the systems, It takes about 10 to 15 minutes before the TV recognizes/shows the video output from the Home Theater. It also takes 15 minutes for the TV to start displaying video when I start a new DVD. This makes the system unusable.

Strangely enough, the Fios TV signal which passes through the Home Theater, shows up immedately on the TV.

The home theater works perfectly fine with my other HDTV TV which leads me to believe that the TCP54S1 Plasma HDTV has problem detecting the video signal coming from the home theater. I have tried changing the output resolution of the HT but it doesn't help. I am considering returning the TV.

Please advise. Best Regards, Fred

What happens if you connect the DVR directly to the TV?  Motorola boxes are known to have some issues with some TVs.

It is probably a handshaking issue with the HDMI connection.  My first thought is blame the LG.  LG make great appliances and decent TVs.  They are not known for their audio.

DVR to TV using HDMI works without problem. You are right, it is a handshake pb between the LG home theater/bluray player and the TV.

Not sure which device to blame though as the LG worked perfect with my other HD TV.

Do you know what are the possible causes of handshake issues (cable? firmware? hardware?)

My Harman Kardon receiver manual has the following tip regarding HDMI systems. You might try it and see if it helps any.

1:  turn off all devices (including the TV, AVR and any source components).
2:  Unplug the HDMI cables starting with the cable between the TV and AVR, and continuing with the cables between the AVR and each source device.
3:  Carefully reconnect the cables from the SOURCE devices to the AVR, and connect the cable from the AVR to the TV last.
4:  Turn on the devices in this order:  TV, then AVR, then Source devices.

Doing the above tip seemed to help my somewhat minor problem with my system. I had no audio or video. After doing the above, it has worked just about flawlessly since. I do have my remote (older model Harmony 659) programmed to turn the components on in the order as listed in #4 now.

I know they are different components/manufacturers, but just maybe it will help, hopefully?
