Castle - season 2

Maybe it's because it's gotten rare on TV, but I love the good father thing.  When he jumped up immediately to go help Alexis and her friend, it was great.  I don't always care so much about the murder of the week (not that they're usually bad), but every regular characters is appealing, from Ryan and Esposito to the less-seen captain and ME.

Interestingly, I don't care at all about the murder of the week. I don't watch shows centered on cops or investigators. I'm not the person who enjoys trying to figure out whodunnit before it's revealed. I watch this show simply for the interaction of the characters, and the premise and structure is just the coat rack the exquisite garment is hung on for me.

The other detectives are a bit boilerplate but the female detective, Castle, his daughter, and mom are all pitch perfect.

As for the Firefly outfit, the whole little bit was just precious. Halloween was just the right time to pull it out.

Speaking of subtle Firefly references slipped into the former show's Star's new show-- I missed this one when it aired;

Two by Two, Hands of Blue

"Two by two, hands of blue."

"Because he's the hero that Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now... and so we'll hunt him... because he can take it... because he's not a hero... he's a silent guardian, a watchful protector... a DARK KNIGHT."

I've never seen Firely, but I appreciated the gag, and the daughter's dialogue! When I heard about Firefly, I had the same reaction as the daughter, there's no cows in space.

This show has some really good banter between the leads too.

Was that on long enough for there to be anything to reference?

There was also apparently a catalyzer from "Out of Gas" on the shelf, when Castle came out of the bedroom dressed as Mal, right below the model boat.

For all the Mal love, anyone notice the Sgt Poke getup at the party?

I can't believe I forgot about about this episode being on since I'd be waiting for that scene since I first heard about it!  Since Monday's are just so jam-packed and CBS's lineup was reruns, I popped in a movie (The Unborn - ugh!).  I was able to catch the scene on ABC.com and it was pitch-perfect!  Now I have to get a copy of that episode to keep!

Well, there are, in that one episode....

River: Little soul, big world. Eat, sleep, and eat. Many souls.
Mal: Cattle on the ship three weeks, she don't go near 'em. Suddenly we're on Jianying, and she's got a driving need to commune with the beasts?
River: They weren't cows inside. They were waiting to be, but they forgot. Now they see sky, and they remember what they are.
Mal: Is it bad that what she said made perfect sense to me?

Also? Have to go look for the catalyzer. It's been mentioned on Whedonesque, but I missed it in the show. Too glued to the fabulous brown coat.

I think they've been wearing blue gloves all along, but yeah, I think I missed the "two" shot above! Too funny.

Nelson you really must correct that oversight. Plus Chuck too, which I don't think you have ever mentioned watching.

I tend to agree with you, however, it is nice when the whodunnit isn't too obvious.  This show is really enjoyable on many levels.  I just hope that the writers can continue to walk the tightrope of just the right amount of tension between Castle and Beckett without giving in to relationship which would kill the show.  Also, the daughter is so good she has the capability to steal the show.  This week's episode was thoroughly enjoyable.

Yet no one mention the reference to "Buffy" and Frank Miller (Beckett, aka Stana Katic, was in Frank Miller's "The Spirit")?

Hey Lou- Long time no chat!

I did see Serenity and I didn't know what the heck was going on! I'll consider looking up Firefly based on your and other's praises here. I just kinda hate getting into a show that was killed so fast and have it end so quickly if I watch it on DVD.

I've seen Chuck a few times, but I never got into it. It looked fun, but maybe I'm not into that kind of show anymore.

Mary, I see there were cows.

The "space cowboy" costume (and banter afterwards) was some of the most fun I've had with a TV show in a long time.  "It's been five years"... I was on the floor.  Caught the Buffy statement, and gotta agree with Castle... Beckett talking about Frank Miller was damn sexy.  LOL

I think I missed the "Buffy" thing. Could someone please remind me?

I think it happened while they were in the cemetary and saw the murder victim stabbed with a stake in the chest (or maybe a re-visit to the murder site).

Yeah nice tip of the Hap to Firefly/serenity fans many of whom I gathered also watch Castle.

I like the fact tht even if this is a lighthearted romp , they put some thought into the Murders, the mysteries are not often obvious. I notice alot of former Trek Hands on hand from Rob Bowman, to Rene escheverra

I have yet to watch this show, but after seeing the enthusiasm in this thread, I went out and picked up Castle:  Season One on DVD.  (No blu?)  Looks like I have some catching up to do!

I'm not commenting enough, or at all, about this great show.

I'm loving pretty much everything about it, the sexual heat between Castle and Beckett is so thick you can cut it with a knife and the comedy they bounce off each other is often hilarious.

Loved the Firefly reference!

So glad the show is doing well, one because i'm happy for Nathan Fillion finally landing a successful show and two...Stana Katic.

I think a few people upthread mentioned that they were interested in checking out "Firefly." Now would be a good time. Best Buy has it on sale www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp for $12.99 -- lots of other Fox series at decent prices too. I hear this is also good in-store.

Tonight's episode was a little too gimmicky for me, with the song thing.  Last week's was also a bit of a gimmick, but it was a Halloween episode so it worked, but I didn't like tonight's really.

I like episodes where the line between Castle's mystery-solving life and home life blur, so I quite enjoyed this episode. Unfortunately, the show has a bad habit of often making the least likely suspect the perp so I suspected the holier-than-thou record co. couple from their introduction. I didn't buy that the dead star's sister could clean up her act that quick, though.

This was the first episode I didn't care for much, either.  I loved how Alexis got in on the case early on, but then they focused on the murder over the character interactions more than they usually do.  I didn't hate it, but it was a drop from the last one in particular.  I did love the surprised/impressed smile Beckett gave to Castle's back when he said he would never lie to Alexis.

This weeks was too much like Law and Order.

"Because he's the hero that Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now... and so we'll hunt him... because he can take it... because he's not a hero... he's a silent guardian, a watchful protector... a DARK KNIGHT."

Well I finished watching Season One of Castle and I loved it.  Unfortunately, since I'm late to the game, episodes one and two are no longer available to stream from ABC.com so should I just wait and buy the season set when it's available?  Or is the stuff I missed in the first two episodes minimal to the story.  I really wanted to hear what Castle had to say about Beckett's mom's case from the last episode in Season One.

Great show!

I'd say it's pretty minimal.  I wish you had a way to see the episodes, but you won't be lost at all if you start at three and get caught up.

Actually, if you don't mind spending some money, you can get the episodes at iTunes.  Maybe Amazon.

Thanks for the tip, Greg, I didn't think of going that route.  Not too expensive if only going for a couple of episodes anyway.  I wonder if I these are on the Xbox Live Marketplace so I can watch them in HD on my screen?

I haven't even looked at this area of my XBox.  I may find a show I've wanted to see and burn some points in order to give this a test.  I was hoping maybe I could finally try Mad Men, but it looks like they only offer the current season.
