I've heard the Sony BDP-S560 is also pretty fast, compared to most.

IMO get Oppo if you want absolute top notch DVD playback, LG if you want to save a couple hundred bucks vs. the Oppo and Netflix streaming has any appeal to you. Get PS3 if you like gaming.
The Oppo also plays SACD (and DVD-Audio?), if hirez audio has any appeal to you.
The PS3 has other side appeals besides gaming -- some like to use it to stream various other content, etc. over their home network, it comes w/ WiFi built-in, moderately useable-in-a-pinch web browser and internet capabilities, and Sony has also started adding video downloads to compete in the same market as Netflix's streaming over the internet. At this point, the PS3 has also seen a price slash down to $300 although it also definitely has its "quirks" (as a BD player) as some pointed out, eg. no built-in straightforward IR remote function (though there are 3rd party solutions on top of Sony's Bluetooth remote), no 5.1 analog output for those who need it.

Certainly faster than they were. The BD10 was slow, the
BD30 was faster and the BD55 I own isn't that bad though
I still have to sit for about a minute while the little load icon
appears on the TV screen.
I like the Panasonic BD players but if you want speed, I
hear that the Oppo is one of the fastest standalone players.
The PS3 is the fastest period due to the processing power
behind it that you won't find in standalone players.
