It's a very good look at the early manned space program. Each episode tackles a different phase from a different angle. You get wives perspectives, media coverage angles, historical contexts, etc., all in two-hour (1:30 or so) chunks. Tom Hanks produced and stars in one of the episodes and narrates all of them.
There are two sets that were issued. One is a 4:3 as it appeared on HBO. The other (later one) is a 16:9 anamorphic presentation, which was also considered correct during the filming.

My DVD CollectionA fugitive moves on, through anguished tunnels of time, down dim streets, into dark corners. And each new day offers fear and frustration, tastes of honey and hemlock. But if there is a hazard, there is also hope. - Closing narration to THE FUGITIVE, "Death Is The Door Prize".

Sorry, poor wording on my part. I said "Tom Hanks produced..." and what I meant was that he did so for the entire series. The rest of the sentence was meant to convey that in addition to his production duties, he "acts" in one episode, and serves as host for all of the rest.
