Restore forum jump nav menu after reply box

Okay, I don't like the removal of the forum jump pulldown menu from the top of the page, but I understand it. The "More Forums" nav, while frustrating, takes up less space. I can live with that.

What I'd like to see is the bottom pulldown menu restored to where it was just after the reply box. An extra line at the bottom of the page is far less of a big deal than an extra line at the top of the page, and it provides the best of both worlds: those who prefer the new nav menu have it available, and those who prefer the old pulldown menu would have it available.

Please take this idea into consideration. Thank you!

I was away from the HTF site and then discovered the missing drop down menu which I thought was good EVEN with the "more forum". Not knowing about "more forum" I started a thread and asked about it. I was told that I should have put it into this area. IF I don't know about this change, how the heck will I know where to find the "suggestion" area. With the drop down menu top and bottom - it is very clear. The "more forum" at the bottom is NOT very clear.

Regarding recent changes to the Navigation Tools:

The functionality per se is reasonable, even good. But I suggest review and revision by someone with experience with human factors / UI design and implementation.

And so I have two suggestions, from a layman's perspective:

Put "this forum" link back after the last post. (After reaching the end of the page, there are no useful navigation tools!)

I urge you to give back the "this forum" link following the last post on each page. The logical flow is to read the page, scrolling down, and then click the "Go" (to this forum) button right there to get to the forum threads. Now, it's made more cumbersome, as the page must be scrolled back to the top to jump to the thread list.

Visually distinguish tools that have different behaviors. Links that are visually similar behave in completely different ways. This is confusing.

The new navigation menu is confusing. The Bread crumbs replace the former "Go" button to jump back to the current sub-forum listing. But the placement on the page varies from forum to forum, so "physical" memory, previously useful with the "Go" button is lost.

The bread crumb links, blue text, are links that go to new pages. I then click "More Forums" link and it gives me a menu. And so I click the "All New Posts" link for some other menu, but it takes me to a new page. So what does small, blue text do? Who knows?

Although I personally prefer the "More Forums" popup, I know that a lot of people seem to prefer the drop-down list. Why not have both? There is plenty of room on the right side of the post column for a drop down box. This is an easy compromise and then everyone can be happy, or, at least, not as grumpy.

I second the need for this navigation on the home page. Please, please add this navigation tool to the main home page. It is sadly missing. These navigation tools should be available on every HTF page.

Thanks for the suggestion. It has been noted! I am going to show this feedback and the rest about the forum nav in general to our team.

I like the drop down but can live with this new thing.

I would like to see something like this at the bottom so when I hit the bottom of a topic i can just click the forum
I'm on and go right back to that forum

I also vote for a return of the forum jump option.  It is useful for those of us old timers on dial up.  Yesterday I posted a comment in another thread in this section as for some reason did not see this thread!

Cheers,

Hey, Patrick!

Ten years and 16 posts.  You choose your words carefully, eh?!?    Very cool!

Or maybe it's the dial-up...

I know my current post count does not reflect the actual number of posts I've made over the years. Although it is still low in comparison. My true post should be at least double what it shows here. Many posts have been lost through various purges over the years.

Hey guys,

I may not post often, actually partly because of the dial-up, but mostly by the time I read all the thread Information every day when I log on, I do not have the time to compose a reply unless it is relevant and / or important.....in other words, a man of few words, but hopefully useful ones!  The forums are great and the information, especially the software information and insider views, is very useful.  Hopefully the surfing time for us old-timers can be improved with the reinstatement of the forum jumps....but, if not I will still be absorbing the comments and information, a great place to learn about our....hobby?...no....obsession?.......got it..addiction!

Cheers,
P.E.Hannon

Well now I just think you're running up your post count!

Patrick:  We weren't casting any aspersions.  Just...noticing, I guess.  It's all good.  I know the powers-that-be are working hard on improving the forum navigation.  Hang tough.

I would like to see the drop down forum jump feature returned, too. While the "More Forums" feature works most of the time, it does not work well if I am trying to navigate via my Dell Netbook. The "More Forums" pop-up window extends below the bottom of the Netbook screen, making navigation extremely cumbersome.

That happens almost all the time on both desktop PCs I use on a regular basis, Scott.

I'm hoping some of these fixes are coming soon.
