Upgrade to Harman Kardon AVR 254

I currently have a Sony STR-K900 which, according to its manual is 90W per channel minimum RMS @ 6ohms(5.1). The Harman Kardon AVR 254 is 50W per channel full power @ 8 ohms(7.1). I want to upgrade to the Harman Kardon AVR 254 for the HDMI audio/video processing so I don't have to have HDMI and optic cable for my PS3, and so I can have full 1080p output to my TV.

First question is, will I be able to keep same speakers even tho the impedance changes from 6 to 8 ohms?

Second question is, with the lower wattage, will I still get same loudness from the same speakers?

Kyle, just to let you know, I just got a new HK 354 and absolutely love it. The 354 is basically the same as the 254 with a couple of exceptions. I don't know anything about your current Sony, but the HK's are known for having very accurate power ratings where other company's are known to not be so accurate.

Also, just in case you don't know or have read, these HK's seem to have hdmi handshake issues with the PS3 (I don't have a PS3, so no first hand knowledge). But, as I said, I absolutely love mine.

what do you mean handshake issues?

I have heard HK make great products and am thinking about getting the 254 for the 7.1(to put speakers in the bathroom), but what are these problems.

The PS3 should be like any device with HDMI, shouldn't it?

Kyle, I sent you a pm. Like I said, I really like my HK 354, but hdmi seems to (sometimes) create some issues with what is referred to as "handshake" problems. This occurrs with different receiver/tv/source combos, maybe some more than others, I think. I really don't know much about that type of thing, only what I have read about it online (so, take that with a grain of salt).

Thanks frank.

If this avr ends up being a no good, does anyone have a suggestion on another good receiver with the same functions?

Functions being:
1080p hdmi upscaling (being able to output component input through hdmi)
hdmi audio/video processing (so don't have to run hdmi and optical from PS3)
