Denon AVR-4310 - RIP-OFF BRITAIN!!!

Let me make one thing clear, the Denon AVR-4310 is an excellent product and comes from a reputable company that has delivered consistent quality.

The problem I have lies with the British Marketing Team of Denon who are trying to pull a fast one, big time! They think that we AV enthusiasts are daft enough to automatically assume that a higher model number means better specs and a higher price. But we are NOT, are we?

The AVR-4310 is the follow on from the 4308, which was a ground breaking product for value-for-money. Most of this was achieved with good old fashion quality of components with the inevitable software/network/GUI trickery thrown in for good measure. The 4310 is a DOWNGRADED unit where some of the hardware specifications have been replaced by, admittedly very sophisticated, software algorithms.

All I am saying is, sell the AVR-4310 at the right price and in the correct market. The guys at Denon wont give any prices on their website, which, again, is customary for the UK and fair enough. However, retail prices indicate that it is being sold above the initial price of the 4308!
Just have one quick look at the US website and draw your own conclusions:

Looking at the product comparison chart it does look like the 4310 took a step backwards in some areas compared with the 4308. Some things, like fewer digital audio inputs, make sense as more components output audio via hdmi, but in many areas it is disappointing.

But Denon isn't the only one who's done this. Onkyo took a step back with the 806 and Pioneer took a giant leap backwards with the 1019 which is now based on the 919/819/519 instead of the Elite platform like previous 10xx models were.

Some receivers, like the Onkyo 805 and Denon 3808 represented a huge value for the money. It seems as though the lower end models are now the value leaders as they acquire features like TrueHD/DTS-MA and better versions of Audyssey and the mid-range receivers are suffering for it. Maybe the 4308/805/1018 were seen as too much of a value for the bean counters and this is all viewed as a "correction" by those in Accounting/Marketing. In any event, it is unfortunate.

Lots of people also say that the Onkyo 806 is a down grade from the 805.
I don't remember what the actual down grades were though........

Oppo BDP-83 Blu ray                                  Polk Audio LSi9

It mostly had to do with the amp section. And I don't think the 806 has Burr-Brown dacs. The 806 also went on a diet losing 13 lbs.
