Ceiling Materials effect on sound

Ive used a room in my home for a theater since we moved in 7 years ago ( it's only 16.5 x 11.5 x 8) and have begun to work out design plans for a more polished look. I really like the idea of a coffered ceiling and would like to do it entirely in wood. I was just thinking the other day that it may be like putting hardwood floors on your ceiling as far as sound reflectivity goes. I know the coffered aspect is supposed to have beneficial aspects to it but the coffers are not going to be very deep, probably not much more than 3 or 4 inches at most (only 8 foot ceilings) and large for the room size at 3' square. anybody have any thoughts on this, now mind you I'm not a sound engineer and don't need the room perfect I just don't want to create any headaches for myself that some simple acoustic panels cant fix.

Do be careful.  Sound reflects like light, and you can also focus it.  Curved surfaces, especially hard curved surfaces, can do some strange things with sound.
