Looks like they dropped the ball on the marketing of "Bandslam", but I saw it nonetheless, and found it overall very watchable.  The main plot revolves around a introverted teenager named Will Burton who is really into music from the 70s and 80s (but has a wide-ranging knowledge of musical pop culture and of the bands/artists dynamics that enable them to make their mark on the music landscape), and ends up moving to another high school, where he gets somewhat of a new start, but making friends isn't Will's strong suit, but soon he gets involved with a make-shift band with eyes on competing in "Bandslam", a competition between high school bands where the winner gets a record deal.

Will is easy to root for as the protagonist (socially awkward, but his musical interests allow him an outlet for his own internal concert), but the supporting cast have their little arcs littered through the film.

If you like teen movies featuring characters with less-than-outgoing personalities, with a music-centric backdrop, and a classic underdog lilt, you might enjoy this film.

I give it 2.75 stars, or a grade of B-.
