Culver City, CA (August 17, 2009) –Academy Award® winning writer and director Woody Allen (1977 Best Director and Best Original Screenplay Annie Hall, 1986 Best Original ScreenplayHannah and Her Sisters) returns to his native New York with Whatever Works, an offbeat comedy about finding love in unexpected places. This Sony Pictures Classics film was chosen as the opening night film of the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival and stars Emmy® Award winner Larry David (1993 Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm), Evan Rachel Wood (The Wrestler, Across the Universe) and Academy Award® Nominee Patricia Clarkson (2004 Best Supporting Actress Pieces of April, Vicky Cristina Barcelona). The cast also includes Ed Begley, Jr. (Pineapple Express, Batman Forever), Henry Cavill (TV’s The Tudors) and Michael McKean (This is Spinal Tap, TV’s Laverne and Shirley). Whatever Works will be available from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on October 27, 2009 for an SLP of $39.95 for blu-ray and $27.96 for DVD. 

Synopsis

Whatever Works explores the relationship between a crotchety misanthrope, Boris (Larry David) and a naïve, impressionable young runaway from the south, Melody (Evan Rachel Wood).  When Melody’s uptight parents arrive in New York to rescue her, they are quickly drawn into

wildly unexpected romantic entanglements.  Everyone discovers that finding love is just a combination of lucky chance and appreciating the value of “whatever works.”

Whatever Works is written and directed by Woody Allen and stars Larry David, Evan Rachel Wood and Patricia Clarkson.  The film is produced by Letty Aronson and Stephen Tenenbaum.
