Help with Sony DVD Player (NS710H) working with HDMI Switch into Sony 52" LCD

I am trying to get a Sony DVD player (NS710H) to work with a Sony 52" LCD (KDL-52W4100) via a Tripp Lite HDMI switch (B119-003).  For some reason, I am unable to turn the DVD player on or off when plugged into the HDMI switch.   There is no response.  Then when I unplug and replug the HDMI cable it turns back on again.

Any ideas on what I can try to get this working and turn the DVD player on/off when plugged into the switch?

Please let me know.  Thanks.

That's pretty weird. So it works perfectly fine if plugged straight into the TV?
You might look into turning off any "HDMI control" aka "BraviaSync" features on the DVD, see if that makes any difference.

I never seen something like this where I have to disconnect and then reconnect the HDMI cable into the switch in order to turn on the DVD player.   I was wondering if anyone on these forums had dealt with a similar situation when using HDMI devices through a switch.

Thank you for responding though.

Any idea on how I can get my notebook to display on my Sony TV?  My notebook does not have an S-Video port.

The TV has an HDMI port on the side which would be idea.  Is there a Notebook card I can buy which would add an HDMI port?

Please let me know.  Thank you.

Your TV has a D-sub 15 aka VGA port on the back.  Doesn't your laptop have VGA out?
