Wiring/In wall/in celing

 Hey all im a new user and hope to learn a lot and get some "professional" recomendations. So here's my deal. 

I just bought a new house, its currently in the framing stages, i was given approval from the foreman to prewire my family-room for surround sound. 

I want to be able to put "in wall" speakers for the front channels and "in celling" speakers for the rear channels. Is it ok to mix in wall and in celling? Any input on brands and what not, I really wanna keep it economical, 5.1, possible 6.1 if possible. 

Any input is great please keep the comments rolling.

most users in this forum will go against putting in  ceiling or in wall type speakers. i am in the same boat as you (i.e. just bought a house and doing the pre-wire myself). I was gonna go the ceiling/wall speakers, but decided to go w/ SVS speakers (7.1). the "in-wall" speakers are usually good for "background" type music and not recommended for "home theater" setup.

however, if you're truly set on the ceiling speakers, check out monoprice.com

I'm not a big fan of in-wall/in-ceiling speakers either but they're a lot better than they used to be. Big problem is once they are installed it's hard to move them to a different location. But if properly installed they might sound fairly decent.

As for the in-wall wiring, even if a 5.1 system is all that's planned for now I'd still wire it for a 7.1. You just might change your mind later on. Be nice if the wires are already there. And of course, use the proper CL-2/CL-3 wire to satisfy local codes (and your Foreman).

WHATEVER you choose, make darn sure you use UL (Underwriter's Labs) rated in-wall speaker cables.  Maybe urban legend, but I've seen threads on HT forums over the years talking about fires and no insurance coverage....Home Depot carries an in-wall UL rated 12-ga wire for about 70 cents a foot.  I used this for the HT I'm building now.
