(The previous post/thread I made in this forum seems to have been deleted when this was moved to here, I am reposting that in here, just because it gives a little bit more information and I want to give you guys as much info as I can):
I had been posting this in the "basics" forum, but Robert_J said I might get better help in here.
My Bravia 40V5100 is about 1-2 weeks old now. It is my first LCD TV and am an definitely not familiar with what is "normal" for LCD tvs as far as "flashlighting" or "clouding."
I did immediately notice what is either called "flashlighting" or "light bleeding" on the TV, which initially looked like the below image on black screens after about 30 minutes of the TV being on (this is a sceen during a dvd -- non blu ray -- of smoking aces where the scene goes black in an elevator, played on a PS3 and paused during that spot). I tinkered with the settings a lot, just to see if anything would make it go away, nothing did.

I realized that the 40V5100 needed to be upgraded, so I did that and I also went to Best Buy to see if I could see how this model of TV was maybe supposed to look -- my only friend that is a Home Theater buff is only into Projectors, so he claims to not know anything about LCDs. At Best Buy it was too bright to tell if the model they had was doing it.
The upgrade did not appear to help (I did it myself, using one of the recommended flash drives on Sony's website). At this point I had read several people saying that using a glasses cleaning cloth and/or tightening the screws helped, so I did that, figuring that at this point the TV is messed up and needed to be returned anyway. That seems to have made it better. Now the TV looks like this (same scene, same camera technique):

It is definitely better, but I can still notice it when I'm watching a movie in a dark room. My problem is that I have no idea if it is "normal" or not.
I still have time where I can return it to either Dell or Sony and try again with a new one. The only reasons I haven't done that yet, is because(1) i'm not sure if this is just the way this TV is supposed to look in the dark and (2) if that is the way this TV is supposed to look, I'm scared to return it and maybe get one that is actually broken.
(thank you for reading my very long post, I was trying to get all possible relevant information posted).
