Did anyone see the end of the Notre Dame - Purdue game on Saturday night? Purdue tackled the Irish ball carrier on 2nd down inside the Purdue five yard line with about 35 seconds left, and ND had no time outs. Clausen was signaling for the team to line up so he could spike the ball and stop the clock -- which would have made it fourth down. Incredibly,
Purdue called timeout before ND could even line up for the spike!

So, instead of it being fourth down with probably 20 seconds left on the clock, it's only third down and 35 seconds left. This gave ND two tries instead of one to get it in the end zone. They failed on third down, then scored on 4th down. The extra down saved by Purdue calling timeout cost the Boilermakers the game.
That was one of the worst coaching moves I've ever witnessed at that level.
