Im building a custom screen to hide some a/v components and I'm looking for that black fabric that I can wrap around the frame but will still let the remote IR info. I have searched but I don't know what the term is for the stuff so I can search on it. Can anyone tell me what it might be called and bonus points to anyone who is kind enough to point me towards it!

Grill cloth - http://www.parts-express.com/wizards/searchResults.cfm?FTR=grill+cloth&search_type=main&WebPage_ID=3&searchFilter=grill+cloth

But any knit cloth that doesn't block 100% of the light will work just fine.  And if you do block all of the light, then there are remote control relay devices for controling equipment inside cabinets.

Depending on what your goal is, there's also generically, "scrim," and more specifically, "sharktooth scrim."  Sharktooth is available in black, white, and gray, and it's a lot like a so-called one-way mirror.  If the light on your side is brighter than the other side, it'll be opaque.  If it's brighter behind it, it's transparent.  (well, almost.)
