MERRY SITCOM - Christmas eps from Shout coming November 3rd

Per my discussions with Brian Ward on the Shout Factory boards and confirmed by Dave and Gord.  The really great thing about this dvd set is that it will include...

Drum Roll please...

"Christmas Memory"
, the holiday episode from WINDOW ON MAIN STREET.

This has been a holy grail Christmas episode of mine for years!  I'm really excited that asking Brian about this several times has resulted in Shout going ahead and adding this as a bonus to their upcoming release.  It's very satisfying and I'm thrilled this is coming in just a few months!!!

Gary "my thanks go out to Shout and especially Mr. Ward for making this dvd wish come true for me" O.

I think this disc is a great idea. I was just talking with a friend of mine the other day about compiling all of the christmas episodes from bewitched, gilligan's island, i love lucy, the dick van dyke show, the lucy show, etc. myself before the next christmas season comes. now I'll have more to add from shows I have yet to collect.

There have already been a few of these Christmas compilation dvds released, but there's always room for more in my book.  And while this one will mainly feature shows that I already own on individual season set releases, it's still nice to have them on one disc for easier viewing during the holidays.  And of course, having the incredibly rare "Window on Main Street" episode added as a bonus makes it more than a must-buy for me!

Gary "can't tell everyone how excited I am about this release because of that bonus episode" O.

Since no one is picking up "Dragnet" and Universal won't release S2, I would much rather see a Christmas DVD set that at least got "Dragnet's" Christmas episode to DVD at long last.

Happy to see the news for you    Reminds me when I mentioned that FKB S1 news was posted at TSoD and you didn't believe me   But, after all, it was April 1st that day.

B&W 50s version, Color Dragnet 196X version, or both?

I'd love to see both, because the original Dragnet doesn't get any attention outside of public domain releases.

It's a great idea but I find that they're using a rather odd lineup of shows. I'm hoping this is the first in a series of releases that will include other shows. Perhaps they should consider doing a Thanksgiving or Halloween idea, too.

Too bad they couldn't include the 2nd Christmas episode of "Hazel" which isn't available on dvd yet. I may pick this set up just for having some holiday episodes all in 1 place.

It's what they have rights to use. I have the Dragnet '53 Christmas show on a PD disc, but it's in B&W. It would be nice if all the studios would do this for their various shows, but I'm not holding my breath.

Shout is using 3 Christmas episodes from shows that they've already released on dvd (Father Knows Best, McHale's Navy, and That Girl) along with 3 episodes they've "rented out" from other studios (Bewitched, The Flying Nun, and The Donna Reed Show).  All of these have seen a release on season sets, but the key is the bonus episode from Window on Main Street.  That's never been released on dvd (the Christmas episode), and I seriously doubt it's even been shown on TV in 4+ decades.  That's the reason to buy this set.  It's a very, very, very rare show.

I agree there's plenty of material out there for multiple Christmas-themed releases, and I'm sure Shout could do a Halloween and Thanksgiving release as well if they had a mind to.  And I'd love to see that color Christmas episode from Dragnet released as well.  It's definitely a classic.

Gary "I'll be buying this dvd for that bonus episode alone, but to each his own" O.

Almost 5 yefars ago I found a two disc collectors set (Everythings called a collectors set) of Dragnet shows. To give you an idea of how old these black and whites were the shows were around 28 minutes long.  The Christmas episode is titled "The Big Little Jesus".  This same Christmas program was also aired on radio. Yes, we were still listening to the talking brown box in the mid 50's.  Late 50's too.  Jack Webb also did the voice for the radio show.  I'm sure many of you are with me here.  As for you others, well, enjoy your youth.  I sure did.  FYI.  Jack Webb, to my knowledge, was the only civilian to be buried under a full policemen's funeral in LA.  Now, before I sign off.  Remember the expression, "Just the facts ma'am."  How many of you have actually heard my man Jack say that?

I suspect most have heard him say that since the color revival of Dragnet from the 60s has been widely syndicated in the decades since until recent years.

I think what he means is that no one has ever heard Jack Webb as Joe Friday say "Just the facts, ma'am", since he never did.

The closest he came was "all we want are the facts, ma'am" .

"Just the facts..." came from, IIRC, Stan Freberg's "St. George and the Dragon-et" release.

Kinda like "Beam Me up, Scotty" was never said by anyone on Star Trek.
