Speaker placement, do I have the room?

I'll get right to it, this is in my basement and the room is 15'x16', three full walls and one halfwall, the halfwall separates another 15'x21' game room.  I didn't plan on putting anything down there but now I want to so nothing is prewired but I do have ceiling access.  My question is if I used a satellite speaker and mounted all to the ceiling angled toward the middlle of the room, would this work or would they be too high, my ceiling is only 7'7" high.  I realize it's not ideal but seeing no wires is a priority for me.

Another thought I had is that I have two shelves about 4' high on the left and right sides of the room, I thought about simply placing my surrounds in the right location on these shelves just during movies then putting them away when not in use.  I would still mount the front left and right along with the center channel regardless.  Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

Mu opinion is that height is perfectly acceptable for the surrounds, but too high for the front speakers.  4' is FAR too low for the surrounds, but probably OK, if slightly high for the front speakers.  A lot of people have their surrounds too low (in my opinion) so someone will probably disagree with me.

They flutter behind you, your possible pasts.

I can mount the fronts and center on the wall and not the ceiling, the backside of the wall is storage so I could put these in an optimum location, 8' feet apart for the room size.  Thanks for the input on the surrounds, I heard the rears should be about 12"-18" above ear level and the side speakers should be relatively higher than that, I could put the rears on stands if needed.
