Setting up Yamaha rxv-800, SA 8300HDTV and Panasonic p50V10 for video and surround sound

I have a Yamaha rxv-800 (no HDMI in or out), a SA 8300 HDTV, and a Panasonic p50V10 will be arriving next week.  Although I think I know how to set up these units for HD video and surround sound, I'd just like to make sure; so, please bear with me.

It is my understanding that there will be problems if I were to use HDMI from the STB to the TV and use either coax or opt digital cables from the STB to the AVR.  Therefore, I intend to use component cables from the STB to the TV while using either coax or opt cables from the STB to the AVR.  I realize that the TV will have no sound with this setup, but that is OK.  Is this setup approach correct?

That approach will be fine.  May or may not be problems with the alternate HDMI->TV, opt->receiver option, I think it depends on firmware version your cable company has it on.

Thanks for the confirmation, Steve.  I may give HDMI a try, but from what I've read, there is a good chance that there will be handshake problems that will screw up the sound output...but then again, it may not???
