How to play mp4 video files

 Hello,
       I'm using Philips Home Theatre System of model HTS3545. My DVD player cannot play mp4 video files. But is there any other alternative to play mp4 videos without losing the quality of the picture and sound....? I mean if we change the codec of the mp4 video, can we play it. Please let me know the solution from you. It's irritating me since I bought the Home Theatre.

Any transcoding will deteriorate the quality.  So, your solution is rather obvious.  Use something which can play mp4.  That can be a computer, or maybe a more universal player.  An Oppo may do the trick.
