Need some help with my new Marantz SR7001

so far i have 2 questions about this thing.

1st, when i have nothing connected and plug it in, and try to turn it on the standby light flashes at me.  best i can figure from reading about this on the internet is that i have to call marantz, which i plan to do monday morning.   im throwing that on this post to see if theres anything that can be done aside for sending it back.

2nd, i have 2 speakers that i would like to use as front speakers, but they are rated at 4ohm each.  the receiver says they must be 8ohm minimum.  i found a thread asking about 6ohm speakers and everyone said those would be ok, couldnt find anything about 4ohm speakers though.  was wondering if those could be used with this receiver, and if i needed to do anything special to use them.

thanks for any help or advice! :)

I don't think there's anyway that you can properly run 4 ohm speakers with this particular amp.  I think most would caution you that really high volume could potentially damage the amp, not sure how practical this is I've never used speakers rated lower than my amp.  Theoretically if the amp if designed to use 8 ohm load as minimum it would have to effectively double it's current to drive 4 ohm speakers (P=I^2*R. so in order to keep power constant if the resistance is cut in half the current has to be doubled right?), this could cause trouble when getting into the peak levels.  Who else knows more about this?

You can use those speakers with your amp, provided that the Wattage is allright. Just don't turn it up to extremely high output sound - but I bet your ears will fall off before the speakers are damaged.

Seriously: if loud sounds impress as distorted, your volume may be too high and you may want to set itslightly less loud. Don't use the amps + speakers in a wrong environment, like a huge room with a party going on. You could easily set it too loud then and not notice potential problems.

In your room at home you will be OK.
