Wall plates for hanging speakers....to use or not to use?

Hello.  I'm currently having my basement finished and I've run all my speaker wires for a 7.1 system.  My main surrounds and back surrounds (All Polk - FXI A6 and FXI3's) will be hung on the walls.  In the opinions of those who have gone before me, would you rather have the speaker wall plates put on the wall where the speakers will be hung or simply have a wire hang out of the wall?  I like the thought of the wall plates, but as I'm thinking about it in my mind, I wonder if there will be a problem when hanging the speakers as the inputs on the plates will protrude out from the wall.  Any ideas or past experiences with this would be appreciated!  Thanks!

Put a box in where the wire will come out, the put a cover plate with a hole drilled in it on the box.  That way, there are no connectors on the wall plate, just a cable poking out.   Having no wall plate means a tough time changing the cable later on down the road....   If you need a bit of wiggle room for the wire to poke out and not hit the back of the speaker, put the plate just above the speaker.
