How do you know you're getting 1080p?

My Sony XBR is capable of 1080p.  But, how do I know for sure what signal is reaching it?  With my receiver, it will tell me I'm getting DD or TrueHD, for example.  But with video, how do you know what is being actually driven to your TV (via HDMI, of course)?

By the way, my TV is Sony model KDL-46XBR6.  Maybe there is some button that will show me what signal is currently being received?  I know there is a signal diagnostic, but I'm not sure of that is what I'm looking for.  Anyway ... thoughts/comments???

The only sources capable of supplying 1080p are Blu-Ray disk (or the defunct HD-DVD) and some on-demand type stuff on satellite.  So even if the Sony has no way of displaying the input resolution (which it should), you can always check the output of your Blu-ray for 1080p.  Any other sources (OTA HD, cable, etc.) are 720p/1080i only.

Thanks Jeff.  With my PS3, I'm pretty confident I'm getting 1080p by doing just what you said.  But, I wish I could "double check" it from the TV side.  Also, with my Dish Network HD programming, I'm curious what it's sending ... althought my box may only be capable of 1080i, I still would like to somehow "double check"/verify it from the TV side.  :)

Hit "display" to get the info banner.  You may have to tweak the general setup/info banner setting to get it to display all the info.
