Yamaha RXV 595A

I have a Yamaha RXV 595A receiver, I had some settings all messed up, I really did not know what I was doing, but after 2 days af messing with all the settings, my wife finally said it sounds terrible, this system used to have a nice sound effects from the surrounds sound, I forget the movie name but there was a helicopter flying, and I could hear the chopper blades swirling from from to back very nicely, to make the story short, I found my 15 yr old Mirage 360 speakers to be the problem, the foam had to be replaced, so now I am up and running, it still sounded terrible, I did  a factory reset on the Receiver and it is much better, now I don't want to mess with the wrong setting again and mess it up, but what settings would I try to adjust to get the sound effect of the helicopter sounds back, there is something slightly missing when the surround sounds from front to rear, like in the movie Cut throat Island, the cannon balls fired out of the cannon would fill the room flying thru the air, it's just exactly there anymore.

    thanks

I would recommend either renting or buying a calibration disk (Avia, Digital Video Essentials, Sound & Vision Home Theater Setup, etc) and going through the audio set-up procedure. You would also need a SPL meter (Radio Shack use to have an analog model but I think it is discontinued).

Those 2 items, compared wiith a basic knowledge of your owner's manuel audio set-up section will get you to the sound you are looking for.

Oh, you hate your job? Why didn't you say so? There's a support
group for that. It's called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar.

I already have the RS SPL, going to look for a CD to set it up.
