Does anyone know of a HT receiver that is a single rack space?  Or, I could use a referral to a non-rack mount unit that is ultra tiny.

There may be home theater in a box units (that come with the speakers) that are small.  The smallest HT receivers I've seen are the Panasonics with digital amps.  I believe they are more than a single rack space though.

I personally don't know of any receivers that are "thin". And besides that, your receiver, no matter what brand it is, needs some space to breathe as far as I'm concerned. I leave plenty of space for every piece of equipment I own no matter what it is.

Closest path I'd even consider pursuing would be a 1RU controller of some sort, talking to (a) a matrix-routing switcher somewhere, and (b) the power-amplifiers, where-ever you put them.  Not something I'd really want to do, anyway.

Over the weekend, I was able to come up with something quite unique that might be my perfect solution.  In fact it will be.   SONY BRAVIA micro theater system HT-IS100.  Receiver, digital amps (50w/ch) and power supply are built right into the relatively small sub-woofer cabinet.  Micro- sized screen and surround speakers, 3 HDMI in, 1 HDMI out, AM/FM, built in 5 X 7 florescent display and IR control. Plethora of other inputs. HDMI inputs support LPCM only though, so one must be careful when selecting a blu-ray player or other source component.  So in effect, the receiver is invisible, which is as tiny as you can get.  I've read a couple dozen consumer written reviews and they are mostly all positive.  DELL has it on sale now for $299 (see link below).  List is $699.  Includes remote,  AM antenna, FM antenna, speaker cable, IR receiver, and auto calibration microphone.  Not a bad deal.  I am going to order one up tomorrow.
