I am just looking for a decent speaker system for a tv that i just bought and is in the mail.  I don't need a dvd player with it just speakers and a reciever.  I'm not an audiophile and I was thinking about hooking up my computer speakers to the tv.  When I asked my friend he told me if i hook comp speakers to a tv I wont get true 5.1 but just stereo sound through all 5 speakers.  my first question is if I did use comp speakers would it sound horrible(keep in mind I just want to be able to hear the audio when I'm sitting further away).  My second question is if the comp speakers are going to sound real bad what is a cheap reciever speaker system that is under $300 that sounds good.  if it helps the tv is a Samsung 26'' LCD and I use my xbox for dvd's.  I just want to hear the audio around me I'm not looking for a theater expierience.  please help.

You'd be wasting your money on speakers. You'll have to sit pretty close to the TV anyway, being 26". The TV's speakers should be all you need.
