****ing Counter Ad

Alright this issue should be fixed now.  Our ad network made a mistake in their trafficking and went in and fixed it manually for us.

Once again, I apologize for these issues and any interference with your activities on HTF.  And please, continue to report any issues promptly so I can get right on top of it and keep the ads and site clean for you all.  Thank you for doing so in this case.

I wasn't sure whether to start a new thread for this (or post it in the Elit ad thread)...but navigating the HTF has been difficult (at best) for me this afternoon as I am having a really long wait on page loads.  They are actually hanging on me rather than long load times.

Using Firefox 3.5.2 on XP, I will click on specific thread links and just get the very top of the thread page with no other information while my FF status bar tells me I am waiting on either:

ad.afy11.net, or

pixel.quantserve.com

I don't know if these issues have anything to do with the new Elit ads or if it's something else...but it's been a problem all afternoon and, as you might suspect, is really frustrating.

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

I also have the lag, but I am seeing the background (including ads) almost instantly.  According to IE8 its the forum portion of the page that is taking so long to load.  I opened a ticket, and it is being looked at.

Thanks, Adam.  I just posted an image above of what my "lag" (although sometimes it's a "hang") looks like.

Hey, in case this has anything to do with the new Elit ads, I shut them down.

I don't know if anyone else is having this issue, but I've noticed over thte last few days that those animated ads for the Ford "SYNC" something-or-other (they feature what looks like a red robot firing a laser) is kinda slowing things down for me.

Not a deal breaker...but my pages won't load until the ad's animation completes.  Fortunately it doesn't take as long to cycle through as that old Amex "counter" ad.

No one else?

There seems to be a newer version of the ad running now which takes a lot longer and is now pissing me off as my PC won't fully load its HTF page until the animation is done.  I guess the creature featured in these Sync ads is a robotic Mercury (winged helmet, you see).

But there's now a bunch of text and probably a 10 to 15-second wait for the animation to run its course before my page loads as expected.

I have seen that ad, but haven't noticed any affect on page load times.

Thanks, Adam.  As I said, there seems to be a newer version of the ad which I'm catching today.  Don't know if that's the one you've seen or not.

It could very well be that my PC is just aging out and not able to deal with these fancy-schmancy ads...although I've got to figure I'm not the only person in the world with an older PC.  Which, BTW, is a Pentium III with an 863 mhz processer, 384Mg RAM running XP with SP2.  My PC at work is comparable.

It looks like there might be more than one version of the Sync ads running.

The first offender involves a red-themed robot.  The text has something to do with "Calling Anna."

The one I just captured and am posting below is more green-themed.  Both feature large streams of something gaseous pouring out of the robot's...  (Maybe they originate from Uranus?!?  )

Anyway, the complete text of the green-themed ad is "It's a Master of Directions...Commanded by your voice."  And then it lands on it's final splash page (Sync Turn-by-turn Navigation--powered by Microsoft) and my HTF page loads.

FWIW, here you can see two different banner ads for Sync...including the red-themed one I referenced above which touts it's ability to make phone calls (It's your personal operator"):

I still get the Samsung birds fluttering about at the top of the page and the occasional Alienware ad, but they don't impede forum browsing. I suppose I should count myself lucky. A few days ago I could only navigate the forum with java disabled.

I think you're secretly in love with the Samsung bird... :P

I'm not having any slow down issues.  My cookies must not be partnered with any of the fancy ads the banners pull from.

The forum is running stultifyingly slow this afternoon.  There seems to be at least one of those damn Sync ads on every page for me today.  The image below shows you that I was coming to post this news, I was fortunatee enough to have TWO of the ads post to the same page.  When this happens, the top banner ad loads, then when IT is done, the second ad then loads.  When they are BOTH done, my page will load.  This can take upwards of 20 seconds.    You can see my status bar in the lower right-hand corner...waiting...and waiting...

I've been getting a political ad while here at HTF which is interesting with the rules against political talk. The bastards are tracking me by IP though since he's been trailing me all over the Internet. Hopefully he'll go away after tomorrow!

I see the garage, but I don't saw the garage. You are speaking incorrectly. You are moidering the king's English! Et cetera! See, saw, see...
