Your List frustration/suggestions

Over the course of the last week, I've been throwing some of my movies into the "Your List" feature.  Yeah, I don't need to do it (DVD Af, Profiler and Excel work just fine), but it's something new to play with.

Anyway, here's my issues:

1) There isn't a "mass import" option.  For instance, when I added all seven seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation, I had to click on each release individually and do the entire "owned" thing and then go back two pages...and so on.  For all seven seasons.  These kinds of things need an option where multiple products can be selected at the same time and put onto "Your List."  Without it, this is terribly tedious.

2) The forum badge for the signature doesn't work...at least in my sig.  Again, nothing major and it's kinda dorky and maybe I'm doing something wrong, but it should be simple to add the html code, hit save and be done with it.

3) Releases are missing.  I'm not talking minor, niche things-I could understand them.  But the Blu-ray and complete series releases of Get Smart.  (And yes, I know we can add releases.  I did that for the Queer as Folk box set.  For whatever reason-maybe it needs to be approved?-it isn't showing up in the search yet).  EDIT: It took a bit, but the box set popped up in the search.

4) The "Add Item" button needs to be on every page with product, not just from the main product pages.  In other words, if I search for "Protege" and the movie I want doesn't come up, I should be able to add it from whatever page I'm on and not have to navigate away.

I think those are the things that really got to me first.

You can actually add products to your list via the main category page (like Home Theater Projectors).  You still have to click the individual buttons rather than selecting from a check box and doing a mass add...but hopefully that will save you a few clicks at least.

Yeah, it's definitely contradictory that we call it a "forum badge" and we don't currently display images in sig files.  It's something we're working on enabling.  Sorry about that.

You definitely hit on a limitation of the database.  There are indeed a variety of products currently missing.  The difficulty with getting things from Amazon is that with their incredible volume of data, they also have a lot of really bad, duplicate data, so our engineers had to be careful to not fill the database with junk content...in the process, some good data gets filtered out too. Getting to the point where a user can simply plug in an Amazon URL or a UPC and have the HTF page automagically created is the goal.  That way, whether you're adding 1 product or 10, the process should be much faster.

To date, we have 70,000 products in the database.

When adding products to the database, it takes between 5 to 15 minutes for the product to be indexed (and appear in search results).  However, you can always browse to the product page or view it directly after you finish adding it.

That's a great idea.  I've put in a feature request for getting the Add Item button on the product tab in search results.

This is a great idea and one I mentioned a few weeks ago.  Our developers are playing with some ways to do a mass import using your DVD Profiler list.  I'm not sure if it will use the CSV export feature or be a "bonafide" DVD Profiler plug-in, but it is something that is being looked at.  To set clear expectations it is down aways on the priority list as we have a few behind the scenes to work on and really want to get the add product enhancements that Christina mentioned loaded first.  I appricate you trying out some of the new features.  As a way of saying thanks PM me your address and let me know if I should send something from the BD or DVD prize box.

No doubt it's down the queue right now.  And I'm perfectly okay with that.  I hadn't seen anyone else mention the lists and figured if a discussion about them could start, then hopefully a good amount of ideas would be available when there was time to do the changes.  Plus, the more people adding to the database will, theoretically, make it more complete.

That's very nice of you, Adam, but completely unnecessary. Maybe when I do something really worthy I'll hit you up again. :D

I was quite concerned I was doing something wrong with the html code. It's good to know it wasn't me. Would a small note next to the badge button saying images aren't enabled for signatures be too much right now, just so no one else goes crazy with it?

For whatever reason, it never hit me that Amazon was the database being used. I assumed it was another, badly managed database. Now it makes sense.

Excellent! That should help a lot!

We actually just went through and cleaned up a lot of that language to hopefully make it less confusing.  For the time being, we won't call it a forum badge.  Just a badge.    Those modifications will go out with the next site update.

I accidentally started a New Thread. I guess I can't delete it. How do I find a Moderator to ask that the thread be locked? Whatever the procedure is, it doesn't seem intuitive. Is there a FAQ on this somewhere?

Here's the thread I'd like to lock or delete.

I didn't really want to Reply to a previous message since I just wanted to add a new topic/subject under the same thread: The Fugitive story lines

Thanks for any help.
