Dish Network ViP-622 video problem

Last night, my Dish DVR (ViP-622) started doing something bizarre. When I turned on my plasma, the entire screen was covered with red and blue vertical lines and rows of pixels. The satellite image comes through too, but it is covered with red and blue. I checked the wiring and everything was ok there. The DVR is connected to the plasma via component since the HDMI output doesn't work (and Dish still claims it does three years after it became a known defect). I switched from component 1 inputs to component 2 inputs on the plasma and got the same result. I then tried running from a composite output on the DVR to a composite input on the plasma with the same result. I connected an old DVD player to the component 1 inputs (where the DVR was originally) and the picture is fine so that rules out the plasma as the culprit. Also the HDMI inputs from my HD-DVD and BD players are fine. The coax output to the bedroom tv works like it should.

Has anyone experienced this before? I know I'm going to end up having to replace the DVR with a new model (722) since the 622 is no longer being produced and it will cost me a merry $200 to do so which incences me to no end.

Has anyone else experienced this from a Dish DVR?

Horrible equipement?  Not correcting problems with software/hardware?  Terrible customer service?  Lies after lies from Charlie about what was was planned?  I experienced it all during the 53 weeks I was a Dish subscriber.  Even after I went back to DirecTV I ended up in the class action lawsuit over the Dishplayer.  The worst DVR in history was so bad everyone banded together against Dish.

I was a D* customer for a few years before jumping to E* for those 53 weeks.  I've been back with D* for a very happy 9 years.  I run three dual tuner HD DVR's in my system without any problems.

If you want help from others then try DBS Talk or Satellite Guys dot US.

Wow, no love for E* huh?

I meant to get back to this post but I've been busy. There were some pretty bad storms which rolled through here the night of the 4th, about 12 hours after I made the original post. During the storms the power didn't go off completely, but flickered a few times...just enough to have kitchen appliances reset, etc...

Sunday morning I turned on the tv in the living room and the dish picture was fine and it's been ok ever since. When the problem first showed up, I tried rebooting the unit with no luck and even unplugged it for a few minutes and got the same results. Now the electricity flickering fixed it. Weird!
