And it's even incorrect!

It doesn't take daylight saving time into account.
I did a test and I was able to have to demonstrate that I changed my message before I created it!

It's on the list and being worked at, Mike.

How about an update on progress?

Any hope on getting rid of the need to press ctrl for the FF spell check?
Any hope of using smiles with out opening a new window each time?
Any hope of being able to jump to a specific forum from our Home page?
Any hope of a "jump to the first unread" post in a thread?

In a far past that option existed - with disastrous results.

Once other people have replied to the first post, it's terribly unfair to delete their contributions simply because the OP thinks the thread "belongs" to him/her and is not pleased with the result for whatever reason.

The same goes with any post (in a thread not started by the poster): the possibility to delete it at will would remove any proof it ever existed and can easily disrupt the logic of the whole thread (and in principle: the forum).

To be frank: there are already posters, now and then, trying to falsify "history" by editing their post in a dishonest way and as a contrast most of our members have no problem with leaving texts as they are while (if necessary) explaining in a subsequent post why they no longer stand by it or want to amend it.

"Remove Subscription" column in the "things you care about" thread listing of the home page.

Managing subs is clumsy. Seeing a thread bumped up in my list that I no longer care about, I want to be able to click an unsub button right there, to deal directly with that thread, and not break the flow of scanning titles and reading the forum.

Currently, I have to move to the edit subs section and manually find the thread title in the list of hundreds (sorted in no useful way).

??? Firefox 3.5 on Win XP and spelling works with right-click.

??? This has been there since the launch. I use it every day. Your home page does this, with your subscribed threads. The forums do this, with the little icon to the left of thread titles, similar to HTF 1.0.

I am using FF 3.5.2 on an XP machine and I still need to press Ctrl for spell check. When I right click I get an option to cut or copy. and then if if click on one of them a message about my security settings tells me to use Ctrl+C.

I never noticed the "First Unread" button. It is right next to the "All New Posts" button I use all the time.

Dave:

Click on Tools/Options/Content Tab.

Then on the advanced button next to javascript control.  If you unclick the box which says:  Disable or Replace Context Menus, you should be all set.

And, BTW, I'm still lobbying for a way to access the forums more easily from the Home page myself.    And vice-versa (I'd like "Home" added as the top option in the drop-down menu).

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

That would solve the problem *and* provide a more logical, elegant look-and-feel and navigation.  In such cases, a little symmetry goes a long way...

And this would even make all this jump-scrolling-back-to-reply-box that I'm experiencing much less painful too -- I'd go to the top and click on a nav link (after submitting a reply) and get knocked all the way back down to the reply box (unless I remember to click on the background first).

Hehheh...

Hmmm...  No more jump-scrollling after reply/edit submit??  Oops!  Spoke too soon.  Guess that fix didn't make it into the recent site software update.

Don't know what you're chortling about...

I'm not seeing your idea yet either!

I like the idea of adding "Home" at the top of the drop-down menu because then you can fly to anywhere in the forum from the page you're on...rather than being tied to whatever bigger folders house the page you happen to be visiting.

Actually, I almost never use that dropdown.  Usually, I prefer to not go to a section of the forum if there's nothing new there, which I can't tell from the dropdown -- maybe if it was enhanced to indicate the existence of new posts, I'd use it.  Also, I'd like to be able to mark a section read when I'm done, which I cannot currently do (just for a specific section) unless I first navigate higher up in the forums hierarchy -- IMHO, there really should be a "mark current (sub)forum read" function as I (and a few others) mentioned before.

That plus I guess I just don't create new threads often enough to regularly wanna jump into a section w/out any new posts there.

But I don't see how your proposal allows you to see if there were any new posts in a given section, either.

How DO you normally navigate the forum, Man?    Enquiring minds want to know....

A billion welcomes back at you.  That was a trick handed over to me by the Huddler staff because of the various formatting issues I have with the tables in my Weekly RoundUp threads.

But be aware of what you have done...because you may find that now some other function you are used to using will stop working and you won't realize why.

That begs a question: why does Huddler / HTF disable context menus with javascript (and then tell us to manually override their code)?

(Mike, I've got my eye on you... ;)

They didn't... it was I that originally gave that information. Not part of the Huddler/HTF group. It was Page 4 of this thread... SEE HERE

He just remembered wrong... but that is ok.

Boy, do I hate "mis-remembering" things.  Sorry, Pete.

The only thing I can say in my own defense is that I did have some issues with the Huddler crew involving right-click table commands which is where I thought I had originally gotten that info...but those discussions came later.

I stand thoroughly and utterly corrected.

Like I said Mike... it is no problem at all. He was just being confused when it came to Huddler so I didn't want him confused with them on something they didn't originally tell you. I would never of worried about it if it wasn't for that.

The fact the info is out there is enough for me... don't really care about the credit.

I asked that on July 13th and still don't know the answer.  Obviously Huddler considers it important and telling us why it's that way is too dangerous to expand upon.  I've just lived with it.

If thread-specific search is not added, the search results need to be given more detail especially including which forum they came from.

I'm looking for the PS3 thread in the HD Hardware forum and it's futile. I search for PS3 and I get 3000+ threads from all over the forum. The search results give no details and I can't tell what forum they're from, so I don't know which is the needle in that haystack.

I did a similar "advanced" search the other day for a thread on "TS3" or Toy Story 3 and could not find the thread I wanted.  Well, I found one of the two threads I was looking for...but not the other.  There were thousands of hits...even though I searched specifically on titles.  Most should not have been returned as valid responses...so I don't know what that's about.

I'm kinda used to the HTF search engine not being too helpful though.  We go back a long way...

The huddler software doesn't disable context menus anywhere, does it? I thought it simply replaced the context menu with their own in a few cases. For example, if I right-click on text in the reply box (or on the same line as the insertion point) I get a custom context menu with just Cut, Copy, and Paste. But if I click anywhere else (even in the reply box), I get the standard IE context menu.

Off hand, I'm not sure of any other places it does anything with the context menu. Is there any besides the reply box one?
