Good memory, Pete.  It was right where you described!

I NEVER would have found that or known what that would hve done if I were to have checked/unchecked it.

Thanks!

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!

BTW, we really need a "Search Thread" function back.  I cannot for the life of me find the back-and-forth between members and Huddler on the right-click issue.

But I WAS able to find this thread from 2006 which has Parker fixing that same issue in vbulletin in less than twelve hours after being first asked about it!

Here is a little visual help for those with Firefox (3.5 anyway... if not all) to get the right click menu back for edit and reply boxes.

Open up the Option menu under Tools. From there...

1. Click Content Button on the top of menu
2. Click the Advanced Button to the Right of the menu
3. Uncheck the box that says Disable or Replace Context Menu

Will give that a shot.  Is the 'Reply' box greyed out for anyone else a lot this morning?  I am finding that I have to refresh the pages often when I want to reply without quoting.

I haven't noticed anything like that, Sam.

Pete:  your trick does the trick, as it were.  Thanks!

Still don't like/have need for the "Other Threads | Related Content" floating box.  It causes way too much "white space" on the right unless you let if follow you, which is even more annoying.  How about a toggle that disables it completely and gives us back the space.  That way if you like it you can keep it and the rest of us can have the full width of the screen for posts.

Still don't like the new editor.  It's way too cumbersome.  Enough so that I now think twice before posting.  Part of this goes back to the necessity of enabling yahooapis with NoScript before I can post (no... I'll *NOT* always allow this), but that's only 40% of my dislike of the new editor.  Also, when I cut/paste (using the keyboard I might add...) I *hate* formatting to follow!  If I want it formatted, I'll add it myself!  At least with Office you can "paste special" to get rid of it!

And the "scrolling" that occurs when you edit a post is *MOST* annoying/disorienting!

Teddy confirms for me that you CANNOT at this time reply to PMs on an iPhone.  This is one thing I will officially request!  I agree it shouldnt be a huge priority tho.

That's the dealy with me: I'd long ago turned that Firefox option off, so my right-click menu couldnt' be changed by scripts. I forgot about that.

OK, that option doesnt work for me.  It lets me right click to fix spelling mistakes and after it goes away it still shows the Huddler copy/paste menu.  Let me restart and see if it does the same thing.

Edit:  restarting doesnt fix it.

First, thanks for responding to software changes/requests in a timely fashion.  A "few" members are kinda obsessive about HTF!

I would also like to see the # of posts/total posts info return,

I LOVE the "All Forums Read" option!  I'm not sure how it worked on other systems, but the old software basically reset the threads each time I got onto the forum.  Now I can jump on, quickly check out the new posts and NOT lose the "Go To First Unread Post" info for the threads I don't have time to read.  (For example, I wouldn't read the "American Idol" thread until AFTER I had time to watch the recording of it, but if I wanted to post in my Amazon MP3 Deals thread, the software "assumed" that I had read all forums and would wipe out the info.)

Is there a setting to "auto-subscribe" to all threads I post in?  I keep forgetting to add them manually...

Eric:  Go to your home page.  Click on Edit Your Profile.  Click on Edit Your Account Details.  Scroll down to E-mail Preferences and check the box that says "Subscribe to Content/Edit by Default."  That automatically subscribes you to every thread you post in.  That's what I do--without ANY e-mail notifications.

Like you, I like using the Home Page as my main portal to the forum.  I also like the fact that I don't have to read EVERY forum with an unread post on every visit for fear of losing track of which threads have new posts in them.  It's cool to read some of them and then come back later in the day to catch up on those I didn't get to first time around.

I see we have our Online/Offline indicators back!  Yay!

This is nitpicky...I'd like the smiley face interface rearranged (especially since emoticons aren't parsed). The smileys seem to be randomly arranged.  The single most important smiley, our go-to guy , is third column down. The most prominently placed (upper left corner) are morphing alien, furrowed-brow angry, silly eyes, and dancing banana: I've never seen the first two used and the latter two are infrequent.

If you want to maintain attribution for the other quote fragments, I guess there's always the option to just copy-and-paste it like I just did for the fragment below.  Looks like the attribution itself is just part of the quoted text in this format -- and you can see that by viewing "Source" (in the Reply box).

Yeah, it's still just a hack as DaveF mentioned, but it's much better than nothing under the circumstance (and is certainly quick-and-simple enough to do, IMHO).

I would like to see a "Mark forum read" Not "Mark ALL Forums Read" Many times I only visit one forum and want the others to remain untouched. The Old software had that option, but it also marked everything read when you left the site.  Along with this a "Search THIS Forum" button while in the forum. Now you have to go to Advanced search to search an individule forum. Basically what I'm looking for is the old "Forum Tools" stuff.

I would also like to see an option to not display signatures, avatars and inline pictures. Those of us who are still forced to use dialup would appreciate it. I have DSL at home, but at work I must use dialup as I cannot access via the company's LAN. It makes it really hard waiting for these pages to load.

Let's see if I can explain this...

Here, sometimes when I'm using the All New Posts feature, I'll go to page 2, and the last couple items from page 1 are now at the top of page 2, which means that some threads got new posts while I was reading and the new posts list updated accordingly.

One function I personally liked from the old vBulletin was the "static" new posts ince last visit search. By static, I mean that the results of the new posts search did not update with page changes. It seemed to be cached based on the timestamp of the search until you ran a subsequent "new posts" search.

This feature made it easier to use the new posts list without feeling the urge to start from the beginning everytime the results change just from pagination.

Unsubscribing from threads could be easier. Here are suggestions.

Add an "Unsubscribe" button / link next to each "Subscription" update on the Home page. There's no simple way to see an updated from a thread and say, "I don't want to see these update anymore."

In the "Edit Subscriptions" tool, add a "Sort by Newest Post Date". Sorting by name or by thread creation date don't reflect how I think about these posts. I think about them as, "this thread popped up yesterday and I want to unsubscribe from it. so I want to unsub from a thread from yesterday". Instead I have to wade through pages of listings to find it by alpha or guess when it was originally created and wade through pages to get to it that way.

And a bug report on subscriptions.

Go to a thread I'm subscribed to. Unclick the "Subscribe" checkbox. Return to Home. I'm still subscribed. I should have been unsubbed.

Go back to a thread I'm subscribed to. Unclick the "Subscribe" checkbox. Make post. Return to Home. I'm still subscribed. I should have been unsubbed.

If checking the Subscribe box makes a subscription, unchecking it should unsubscribe me. If manipulation of the checkbox does nothing once subscribed, it should not be editable for subscribed threads. It should be uneditatable text (no checkbox) saying "You are Subscribed". Or maybe a link to that goes to my edit subscriptions page.

Aye, I'd like to see both of those added as well -- and was just about to post that.  Personally, I can't ever see myself (or most other users) want to mark *ALL* forums read from inside one of the (sub)forums -- such a global command seems to make more sense on a global kinda page like the top level forums page or one's own home page, not w/in a (sub)forum.  OTOH, marking the current (sub)forum read makes perfect sense.

I know it's been suggested before to have the common smilies displayed always, but I have an idea on where to put them. Since the reply box is larger than the normal post body, how about shrinking the reply text area to match the post body width. Then use that extra space for a common smilies window. It's been said before that the reply box is not quite "WYSIWYG" because of the width difference. This would solve both issues.

Is this (from the Support link at the bottom of the page) what you're looking for, Mark?
  • To mark an individual forum as read, click the forum icon with the green check mark.

Can someone tell me how to post a link that shows up as text in the post instead of a URL? (See the link Mike posted in post 122 for what I'm talking about). I can't figure out how to do it with the new software.

Does anyone even click on these "My Collection" links?

Yes it is. I never knew it was there as I never go to the index. I have bookmarks into the forums I frequent. This will do I guess, it just adds another step to my broadband challenged browsing. It would be nice to just have something within the forum to mark just it read. As I said before, the stuff that Vbulletin had within the forum, "Search this forum" and "mark this forum read." would be nice.

I'm seeing a lot of threads getting resurrected from many (5+ years) earlier.  Should the software perhaps warn the user about this?  Or make the date of the last post maybe a little bigger/bolder?

Related to this, I think, is the behavior of the search function.  It brings up results from way in the past by default, near the top of the results list.  Should the defaults perhaps be changed to searching only a year or two back, sort results by date, newest first, and/or weight recent posts more heavily?  I'd also like dropdowns to "search this forum" (without having to go advanced search) and "search this thread".

Stephen.  Thanks for your feedback.  We are going to be tweaking the search function to put more weight on newer threads than the other criteria used..  One of the reasons you are seeing a lot more older threads in the search results is over one million posts that were previously though lost were "found" during the site conversion.
