HDMI settings on Sony STR-DG1000

I have a very simple problem that the folks on the Sony tech support hotline can't answer.  I have a Sony STR-DG1000 receiver, and a DirecTV HD receiver attached to it by HDMI (in the receiver's HDMI1 input). The HDMI out from my receiver is going to my TV.  When I put on my receiver and set it to TV/SAT, I get a picture on my TV, but no audio.  All I have to do is hit the "HDMI" button on the front of my receiver, and voila, I get perfect 3.2 audio.  The Sony folks claim that there is no way to permanently make it so  the HDMI button doesn't need to be pressed, but I have to believe that there's a way to do it.  Any ideas?

Um, don't you have HDMI1 button on your remote?  Just turn it on and hit HDMI1.  (Or get universal remote that can do this + turn on TV to right input automatically).

Just skip the "set to TV/SAT" part.  HDMI 1 is considered a different input on this receiver.  Just use the remote or the receiver HDMI button, no need to set to TV/SAT first.
